Does lifting weights affect height?
Lifting weights does not affect your height.
Bone grows through the continuous proliferation and ossification of chondrocytes. The stress of weightlifting can promote the proliferation and division of chondrocytes, thus promoting the development of limbs bones. Most professional weightlifters are not tall, just because their bodies are more competitive.
Does lifting weights make people depressed?
The State Sports Bureau has repeatedly denied that lifting weights will not make people shorter. A series of investigations and studies have also proved that weightlifting exercises do not affect the height development of teenagers. On the contrary, lifting weights can promote height.
We see that the athletes in weightlifting competitions are not tall because coaches tend to choose short athletes and athletes with low center of gravity. The level of weightlifting competition is divided according to weight, so short athletes have great advantages under the same kilogram class. They are all 80kg, one is 160cm and the other is 180cm. Muscle quality is different, and the work done when lifting weights is completely different. Short athletes will have a great advantage.
As early as 1986, the researchers found that the difference in muscle volume between China weightlifters and Soviet and Bulgarian athletes at the same kilogram level was mainly due to the difference in height. If we can appropriately reduce the selection of weightlifters, we can narrow this gap and improve the competition results.
What stages does it take to grow taller?
Height is related to the length of human long bones.
Long bones include the tibia of the calf and the femur of the thigh. The lengthening of long bone is mainly accomplished by the continuous growth and ossification of epiphyseal cartilage. The epiphyseal plate is like a long "engine". The epiphyseal cartilage proliferated continuously, which led to the lengthening of long bones and the continuous increase of height, until the epiphyseal plate closed, the "engine" stopped working and the height stopped growing.
Height growth can be divided into three stages:
The first stage: the rapid development of bones, within 2 years old, the whole body bones gradually grow and the height increases rapidly;
Phase II: Skeletal development slows down. Boys are 2- 12 years old and girls are 2- 10 years old. The normal growth rate is about 5cm-7cm per year, and the growth rate tends to be stable.
The third stage: accelerated bone development. In adolescence, boys are between 12- 16 years old and girls are between 10- 15 years old, and their height can be increased by about 25cm-30cm.
After puberty, the bones are basically fully developed and the height tends to be stable. Generally, boys are 22 years old and girls are 20 years old, and their height basically stops growing.
