As soon as the paper came out, it was criticized by many scholars, pointing out that there were many mistakes in its testing method. First, the CaMV35S promoter detected by the original author was proved to be false positive after reexamination; Secondly, the adhl gene detected by the original author is adhl–f gene in maize, which is completely different from the sequence of adhl–s gene transferred into Bt 1 1 maize. Afterwards, the editorial department of Nature issued a statement saying that the evidence in this paper is not enough to prove its conclusion.
