This kind of mouse with human ears on its back first appeared in 1997, which was mainly completed by Cao Yilin, who was engaged in postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School at that time, in Vacanti laboratory. Some media once wrote an article questioning that the research team of Professor Cao Yilin from the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiaotong University had scientific research fraud in the results of regenerating "human ear cartilage" on the back of nude mice, and believed that there were drawbacks in the use of scientific research funds. In this regard, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine and its affiliated Ninth People's Hospital set up a leading group for Shanghai Jiaotong University's response work, investigated and verified related issues, and confirmed the results of organizational engineering.
Team transformation "human ear mouse"
Yesterday, the press conference also released the survey results: the scientific research results of regenerating "human ear cartilage" on the back of nude mice were identified by experts as real and internationally recognized.
In order to prove his innocence, on June 20th11,Professor Cao Yilin's research team began to construct auricle scaffold materials and conducted repeated verification experiments. On June 24-25, the cells were seeded on the scaffold material. After a week of in vitro culture, the auricle scaffold inoculated with cells was implanted into nude mice on July 1 ~ 5. Six weeks later, in mid-August, "human ear cartilage" was successfully constructed on the backs of eight nude mice, and the whole experimental process was recorded.
Pathological examination showed cartilage tissue.
On August 14, Shanghai Jiaotong University organized an academic review committee composed of four domestic academicians and eight experts in related fields to review the academic research results of national organization engineering led by Professor Cao Yilin.
At the meeting, the expert group listened to Professor Cao Yilin's relevant report, and made on-the-spot investigation and academic evaluation. The living "human ear mouse" was displayed on the spot and sampled on the spot for verification. The regenerated tissue was confirmed as human cartilage tissue by field frozen section and pathological identification, and also transferred to a third party for histopathological identification. The pathological report of August 16 further confirmed that it was cartilage tissue.
The results of the appraisal meeting showed that the participants agreed that the technology of "human ear mouse" was true and mature. With the national investment in this scientific research, the research team led by Professor Cao Yilin has made important achievements in the field of tissue engineering research, especially in the study of large animal models of tissue engineering tissue construction and defect repair. The technology of tissue engineering tissue construction in vitro has distinctive characteristics and is in the leading position in the world. 10 published 85 SCI papers, with a total impact factor of >: 300 points. He cited more than 2000 scientific research achievements made by the team, which made great contributions to the development of tissue engineering in China and the promotion of international status.
In addition, Professor Cao Yilin also revealed that the team recently successfully reconstructed human auricular morphological cartilage in an in vitro incubator by using the residual auricular chondrocytes of patients with microtia. At present, there is no report on the application of human cells to regenerate realistic human auricular cartilage in vitro. This is one of the important breakthroughs recently made by the National Engineering Research Center of Tissue Engineering and a key step to promote the transformation process of clinical application. At present, the biological safety of human ear chondrocytes has been tested in China Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products, and relevant product standards have been formulated, and a more comprehensive test will be started in the near future.
