Scientific research in the Department of Industrial Engineering, Tsinghua University
In 2002, the Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University defined the framework of discipline construction and development, and planned the frontiers of logistics engineering, advanced manufacturing, human factors engineering and other disciplines.

At present, there are three research institutes under the Department of Industrial Engineering, covering the core areas of industrial engineering, namely:

Institute of Logistics and Statistics: mainly studies mathematical planning, stochastic model, decision theory, algorithm and optimization theory, mathematical statistics, experimental design, as well as procurement management, operation management, inventory management, distribution management, customer demand management, network and traffic management, coordination mechanism, etc.

Engineering System Research Institute: mainly studies production system design and simulation, production planning and control, quality and reliability, manufacturing process and system optimization, enterprise integration and informatization, intelligent monitoring and visual production management, enterprise diagnosis and efficiency improvement, production logistics and supply chain management, etc.

Institute of Human Factors and Ergonomics: mainly studies the interaction between human, machine and environment, production ergonomics, psychological ergonomics and organizational ergonomics, usability theory, production and traffic safety engineering, man-machine interface, occupational safety and health, etc.

The Department of Industrial Engineering has carried out a series of scientific research around the fields of modern industrial engineering foundation, logistics engineering, manufacturing system engineering and human factors engineering. It has undertaken a number of national natural science funds, 863 projects, local government projects and domestic and foreign enterprise cooperation projects, and a number of scientific research achievements have won national and provincial scientific research awards. Every year, he publishes dozens of high-level academic papers in important international magazines in the United States and Europe. The Department of Industrial Engineering is engaged in logistics and logistics engineering, production engineering and manufacturing system, production management and enterprise information system (CIMS). Since its establishment, the Department has successively won the National Natural Science Foundation, the Outstanding Youth Fund, the 863 High-tech Project, the New Century Talents Program of the Ministry of Education, and the provincial and ministerial cooperation projects.

Cooperative unit

The Department of Industrial Engineering has extensive cooperation with the industrial sector, and has good cooperative relations with international and domestic famous enterprises and organizations such as Caterpillar, Liberty Mutual, Ministry of Railways and Olympic Organizing Committee.

Developing extensive international cooperation is the focus of scientific research in the Department of Industrial Engineering. In addition to maintaining close cooperation with many foreign research institutions and universities, we also carry out industrial engineering application research with many large international enterprises, including Bao Li Mutual Insurance Group, Motorola Company, Rolls-Royce Aero Engine Company, General Motors Company, Nokia Company and Procter & Gamble Company. With the development of these studies, the research direction of the Department of Industrial Engineering can quickly connect with the frontier of international discipline development.
