Translated by Song Lian and Bai Shu in Quzhou.
I was very studious when I was a child, but because my family was poor, I couldn't afford books, so I often borrowed books from people who had books, copied them and returned them on the scheduled date. The weather is cold, the ink on the inkstone is frozen into solid ice, and the fingers are stiff and inconvenient to stretch and bend, but copying never slackens. After copying, I was in a hurry to return the book, not daring to exceed the scheduled date. Therefore, people are willing to lend me books, so I can read a lot of books. This "Talk" talks about the young man Huang Manyunxiu borrowing books from the author, and puts forward the view that "books should not be borrowed or read", encouraging young people to turn disadvantages into advantages, and strive to create learning conditions for themselves and study hard.
