Professor Yu Guocong19221/KLOC-0 was born in Guangzhou in June, and/KLOC-0 graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering in The National SouthWest Associated University in June, 1943. That is to say, from that crisis period full of war and smoke, he began his love affair with chemical industry for half a century. This persistent pursuit of science led him to travel across the ocean to the United States for further study after graduation. 1945 received a master's degree in science from the University of Michigan, 1947 received a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh, and immediately became a lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering, and 1948 to 1950 served as assistant professors. There, he studied hard and worked hard. In addition to giving lectures to undergraduate and graduate students and instructing graduation thesis, he also conducted research on chemical thermodynamics and distillation theory, published many papers, and was accepted as a member of three honorary societies such as Sigma Xi.
Faced with impressive achievements and honors, he was not intoxicated, and he still explored in the field of science. Facing the rich academic atmosphere and superior scientific research conditions, he is not addicted to it, but the suffering motherland still haunts him.
After the founding of New China, Yu Guocong was full of love for the motherland and broke through many obstacles. 1In August, 950, he resolutely returned to the motherland in the name of visiting relatives in Hong Kong, avoiding the attention of the American government and becoming one of the first batch of returned scholars to study in the United States. After returning to China, Yu Guocong was invited by Mao Yisheng, president of Northern Jiaotong University, to be the professor and head of the Department of Chemical Engineering of Tangshan Institute of Technology. Professor Yu Guocong has been engaged in the research of chemical separation science and engineering for a long time, especially in distillation theory and technology, and has achieved fruitful results. In the mid-1950s, the early scientific research group of chemical engineering discipline of Tianjin University was established, which took the lead in studying the separation theory of large tray. In the late 1970s, with the convening of the National Science and Technology Conference, China's scientific and technological circles ushered in the spring of science, and Yu Xiansheng also ushered in the spring of his own scientific research, leading his scientific research team to quickly establish a basic research base in the distillation field. After 1980s, a new method of three-dimensional simulation of large-scale distillation process was proposed. At the same time, the packed tower technology with new internals has been developed, which has opened up application research for enterprises and made its achievements widely used in industrial production. In some large petrochemical enterprises and a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises, many distillation units (including imported large-scale equipment) have been reformed, which has improved the output and quality, reached the international high level, created economic benefits of hundreds of millions of yuan for the country and enterprises, and won many national and ministerial awards. At the same time, he founded the first production and research base of structured packing in China, and its technology and products have spread all over the country. In addition, based on the Institute of Chemical Engineering, Tianjin University, which he founded, and approved by the State Science and Technology Commission 1990, a national high-efficiency packed tower promotion center and a national key laboratory of United Chemical Industry (distillation laboratory) were established, and a national engineering research center of distillation technology was established 1998. Over the years, Professor Yu Guocong has contributed to promoting and improving the distillation technology level in China, cultivating senior distillation talents in China, and establishing a distillation base integrating R&D, production and promotion.
In the field of heavy water production in China, Professor Yu Guocong has also made his own contribution. In the early 1960s, he participated in the national research group, aimed at the frontier of national defense science and technology, and undertook the arduous task of heavy water research. As one of the main technical leaders, he was cordially cared and personally received by Premier Zhou Enlai. He led the research of heavy water distillation in Tianjin University, achieved important results, and won the National Science Conference Award of 1978. At the same time, he founded the major of light stable isotope separation technology in China, and trained the talents of heavy water technology urgently needed in China at that time, which was well received by relevant departments.
At the same time, Professor Yu Guocong has made outstanding achievements in basic research. In 1960s, he put forward a relatively complete theory of unsteady distillation. In 1980s, a new strategy of dynamic distillation with variable parameters was put forward, and the corresponding technology was developed. The results have been used in production and achieved remarkable economic benefits. In the 1990s, a new separation process of compounds, adsorption distillation, was put forward, which attracted the attention of colleagues at home and abroad and was developed in cooperation with them. He also successfully developed computational fluid dynamics of gas-liquid two-phase in distillation process, and opened up a new field of computational mass transfer. In addition, he has made important achievements in accurately measuring the concentration field and velocity field near the gas-liquid interface and the optimal thermal integration network of distillation system by using modern laser technology.
Professor Yu Guocong has published more than 200 papers in academic journals at home and abroad, and edited 8 reference books, monographs and teaching materials such as Chemical Dictionary and Chemical Manual. He has made many keynote speeches, conference reports and invited reports at international academic conferences. He also carried out extensive international academic exchanges and conducted many scientific research and technical cooperation with universities and enterprises in Britain, the United States, Germany, Switzerland and other countries and Hong Kong.
With a realistic, rigorous and innovative scientific attitude, Professor Yu Guocong has been persistently exploring the chemical industry he loves for more than 60 years, and his great achievements have attracted worldwide attention. At the same time, Professor Yu Guocong has been working hard for more than half a century in the post of teaching and educating people. He insisted on teaching chemical engineering in the front line, paying special attention to the teaching of basic courses. He is the first doctoral supervisor in China. So far, he has sent 28 undergraduates and trained nearly 100 master students and doctoral students. These high-level academic talents have become famous chemical experts at home and abroad and the pillars of national modernization. To this end, he has won many teaching awards from the state, Tianjin and Tianjin University. The research and practice of the education reform research project of the Ministry of Education ——2 1 Century (1996-2000), which was presided over by Professor Yu, have achieved outstanding results and been highly praised by the Ministry of Education. As a member of China Association for the Promotion of Democracy, Professor Yu Guocong is a member of the sixth session of China People's Political Consultative Conference (1983- 1988) and a member of the seventh and eighth standing committees (1988- 1998). The 6th Standing Committee of Tianjin CPPCC (1980- 1982) and the 9th Vice Chairman (1993- 1998). He used to be a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of China Association for the Promotion of Democracy, vice chairman and chairman of Tianjin Association for the Promotion of Democracy, and is now honorary chairman. Today, 80-year-old Professor Yu Guocong is hale and hearty and still works in the front line of scientific research and educational reform.
