Word sets the header and page number in the chapter.
In Microsoft Word, when typesetting papers, books, etc. , you usually need to set the header and page number in the chapter. Take the first draft of a professional teaching material of a university as an example to explain it in detail.

The picture shows a simplified book typesetting format, which consists of cover, table of contents and text.

Now you need to add page numbers to the body, titles to the table of contents and the body.

The purpose of this step is to display the section break tag added later, so that you can see the distribution range of each section more intuitively.

Click "File" in the menu bar; Find the "Options" at the bottom and click Enter; Click Display, check the option "Show all format labels (a)" in the column "Always show these format labels on the screen", and click OK in the lower right corner of the window to exit the Start interface.

Click "Insert" in the menu bar, find "Header and Footer", click "Page Number", find "Page Bottom" in the drop-down bar, and choose a page number style you want.

The word text interface after inserting the page number is shown in the figure.

Although there are page numbers now, first of all, the page number of each page is 1, and secondly, the page where the directory is located should not be set with page numbers. This requires the following steps to set them up separately.

Move the mouse cursor to the end of the page where the directory is located; Click the "Layout" option in the menu bar and find the "Separator"; Locate the section break column in the drop-down bar and click Next.

? At this time, you will find an extra page in the table of contents, and the section break logo you just added will be displayed.

Find the first page of the text, double-click the page number position with the left mouse button to enter the page number editing state. At this time, you will find that the menu bar automatically jumps to the "header and footer" option.

First, find the navigation toolbar, click it with the left mouse button, and cancel "Link to the previous section".

Secondly, find the header and footer toolbar; Click "Page Number" and find "Format Page Number (F)" in the drop-down bar; Click Enter to find "Page Number", select "Starting Page Number (a)" and set the starting page number to 1, and click "OK" in the lower left corner to exit.

At this point, set the page number correctly from the first page of the text.

First, move the cursor to the section break on the last page of the catalog, and press the delete key on the computer keyboard. You will find that the redundant blank pages and section break logo in the catalog have been deleted.

Then double-click the page number position of the cover (if there is a page number) and the page where the directory is located, and delete the page number.

The steps of setting the header are similar to those of setting the page number, except that when setting the page number, the word document is divided into two parts: cover+table of contents and body, while when setting the header, the cover, table of contents and each chapter of the word document are divided into separate parts. The specific operation is as follows:

Click "insert" in the menu bar, find "header and footer", click "header" and select the header style you want in the drop-down bar.

Move the mouse cursor to the end of the page where the directory is located; Click the "Layout" option in the menu bar and find the "Separator"; Locate the section break column in the drop-down bar and click Next.

Take the introduction of the first chapter of the text as an example:

First, double-click the header position on the first page of the introduction of the first chapter of the text with the left mouse button, and the menu bar will automatically jump to the "Header and Footer" option to find the "Navigation" toolbar; Click with the left mouse button to cancel "Link to the previous section"; Modify the title to "Introduction to Chapter 1".

Secondly, slide the middle mouse button to the header of the second page of the first chapter introduction, and still cancel the "link to the previous section"; Modify the title to "Introduction to Chapter 1".

At this point, you will find that the headers of all pages starting from the first page of the first chapter introduction have become "the first chapter introduction", because all the text parts are regarded as a section. But don't worry, just repeat the second and third steps in the table of contents and subsequent chapters, and you can set different titles in different chapters.

Because the cover usually has no header, it is necessary to delete the header set before. The steps are the same as the fifth step of page number setting, and will not be repeated here.
