The research and practice of healthy personality in China began in the 1980s. Xu Jinsheng and Qu Wei founded the Beijing Healthy Personality Research Association on 1988, held the first national seminar on healthy personality and psychological counseling, published the Healthy Personality Series (Peking University Press, 1988 edition), and held various seminars and lectures. In recent years, Xu Jinsheng founded a seminar on holistic psychology; Qu Wei founded a philosophy studio. Promote the development of healthy personality theory and practice.

Xu Jinsheng published monographs such as Towards a New World of Personality (Workers Press).

Put forward the theory of three elements of healthy personality, and think that moral strength, wisdom strength and will strength constitute healthy personality.

Qu Wei published The Mystery of Personality (Renmin University of China Press);

Put forward the theory of five elements of personality and establish a macro-healthy personality model of physiology-psychology-society-morality-aesthetics.

Qu Wei's thesis "Humble Opinion on Personality Health in the Primary Stage of Socialism" won the paper prize at the theoretical seminar to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee.
