How to determine the level of periodicals
At present, the core journals required by the professional title evaluation department are mainly "Chinese Core Journals" and "Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) Source Journals". Very few evaluation units use "China Science Citation Database (CSCD) source journals". There is no government department in the country to classify periodicals. The so-called periodical level is only an understanding of the periodical catalogue launched by the periodical industry and some social institutions.

Domestic periodical level:

1. Provincial periodicals refer to periodicals and journals sponsored by institutions or undergraduate colleges under the jurisdiction of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government. For example, the organizer of Jilin Medicine is Jilin Provincial People's Hospital.

2. National periodicals refer to publications sponsored by national ministries and agencies, national organizations, institutions or academic institutions. For example, the organizer of Modern Business: China National Business Information Center.

3. Core journals: At present, there are seven major selection systems for core journals in China. All journals that can be found or included in these seven core journal systems are considered as core journals.

The impact factors of related journals can be searched in two databases, and people often mention the impact factors of papers, which is completely inaccurate. The impact factor is only used to evaluate the journal itself. The evaluation index of a single paper is generally citation, and self-citation should be excluded.

Foreign periodicals, especially English periodicals, are basically classified into SCIE, SSCI, AHCI and EI. In the past, SCI also distinguished SCI from SCIE. Later, they were all unified into SCIE, and the classification of the three journals overlapped.

Extended data:

The level of Chinese periodicals is very simple. The basic standard of liberal arts is CSSCI and the core of Chinese Department of Peking University, and the basic standard of science is CSCD, now called CSTPCD.

The Social Science Evaluation Center of Nanjing University published the list of CSSCI source journals, which expanded the list of source journals and the list of source collections. At present, the latest edition is 20 17-20 18, while the previous edition is 20 14-20 15, 20 16, which has been in use for some reasons.

Generally speaking, the periodical catalogue of CSSCI is smaller than that of Peking University Chinese Core, so there is no special C-journal in some disciplines, which also causes scholars in related fields, or more precisely, college teachers, to face great difficulties in scientific research assessment.

From the online database, CNKI China Knowledge Network contains the most, especially liberal arts, almost all the core catalogues of Peking University, and even many domestic junk periodicals; CSTPCD used to be included in VIP database, but now it mainly turns to Wanfang.
