One day, my father could no longer hold back his anger and asked Balzac, "I asked you to study law." Why do you want to study literature? "
"Dad, you know, I'm not interested in law." Balzac said to his father very kindly.
"Not interested!" Father was about to jump with anger. "What are you interested in? It's literature. It's easy to do literature. I don't think you are literary material at all! "
"That's not certain!" Balzac shook his head and said confidently, "A person's success often depends on his confidence and hard work."
"Confidence and hard work? Well, starting today, I'll give you a two-year deadline. If you can't do it, you must study law. Do you dare to promise? "
"Dare!" Balzac replied categorically.
From then on, Balzac was locked in the house by his father and buried himself in writing all day. During this period, he wrote a historical drama, but because of his limited experience, he didn't know enough about the characteristics of the script and didn't succeed. But Balzac didn't lose heart. He firmly believes that as long as he makes up his mind and works hard, he will certainly achieve something in literature.
After a period of writing practice, Balzac felt that his knowledge and experience were very shallow. As a result, he desperately read world literary masterpieces, made extensive contact with society and learned about life. He goes in and out of the library and bookstore every day, always coming first and leaving last. On one occasion, he leafed through the materials in the library, taking notes while reading, and forgot the time. The library staff left work and forgot to call Balzac. The next morning, the library staff came to work and found Balzac still reading and writing. Balzac really forgot to eat and sleep in order to study.
Balzac needed a fight in a novel, so he went to the street to observe. It is easy to meet two young people quarreling, so he deliberately fanned the flames and wanted them to fight. Who knows that these two men saw through his "trick" and together they blew him away.
Balzac closed the door when writing an article, and even his family were not allowed to enter his study. Once he locked the door of the house, jumped into the house from the window and closed the window again. The visitor saw the lock on the door and walked back involuntarily.
After several years' efforts, Balzac published the novel Juan Party, which was well received by French literary circles. Since then, he has successively completed 97 novels such as Human Comedy, which established his position in the history of French literature and world literature.
