Yang Junsheng's academic achievements.
Yang Junsheng has made great achievements academically. During his tenure as director of China Shipyard and professor of the Department of Ship Engineering at Jiaotong University, he not only gave lectures, but also published the Method for Determining the Anchor Chain Size of Fixed-strength Ships (English Version) and Icebreaker in China Shipbuilding, and cooperated with Xin Yixin, Zhu and Gong Yingzeng to draft the first specification for Chinese steel ships. This had a far-reaching impact on the development of shipbuilding and ship inspection in China at that time.

Yang Junsheng attaches great importance to the outfitting of ships, and expresses his views on the method of determining the size of ship's anchor chain. The main contents of the article "Method for Determining the Size of Ship Anchor and Anchor Chain with Fixed Force" are as follows:

The weight of the anchor determines the anchoring force, which must be greater than the sum of wind resistance and water resistance borne by the ship.

The wind resistance of a ship can be calculated by eggert formula. It is related to wind speed and wind zone. The resistance of water flow is related to the speed of water flow at anchor. For simplicity, only friction resistance is considered in water resistance, and wave resistance at low speed is ignored. Moreover, there are ready-made formulas for friction resistance. When the total resistance is known, the size of anchor and anchor chain can be estimated by empirical formula.

According to many ship data published in foreign publications in the past, and assuming that the wind speed is 100 knots and the current speed is 6 knots, a series of calculations are carried out, and the calculated values and actual equipped values of anchors and anchor chains are listed and compared, and they are very close. It can be considered that this calculation method can be used to determine the size of anchor and anchor chain.

China Steel Ship Code (Draft) provides a lot of data and charts, summarizes the experience and technology of advanced shipbuilding countries in 1950s, and is the first written shipbuilding code in China.

The draft specification is divided into three parts:

The first is the class registration inspection, which specifies various inspection items and standards in detail.

The second part is hull structure and equipment, which stipulates various shipbuilding structures and technical specifications.

The third part is the structure and accessories of the steam turbine, which stipulates the process regulations of the steam turbine, internal combustion engine, electric power and marine equipment.
