WestCaucasianbatvirus (WCBV) was first separated from southern Europe (Russia) in 2002.
From a healthy male long-winged bat (Miniopterusschreibersi).
In 2005 and 2008 in Kenya, Africa, it was found that 17% ~ 26% individuals had antibodies to the virus.
So far, only 1 strain of virus has been obtained in the world. This virus is pathogenic to both mice and non-human primates.
Genetic evolution analysis showed that the virus had the greatest genetic difference with other members of rabies virus genus, did not belong to the two genetic evolution groups currently divided, and had no cross-reaction with other members of rabies virus genus.
