Why is the trunk round?

In the process of observing nature, I happened to find that the posture of the trunk was almost round-an empty cone. Why is the trunk conical? What are the benefits of a conical trunk? In order to discuss these problems, I made more in-depth observation and analysis.

I consulted relevant information and learned that the stems of plants have the functions of supporting plants and transporting water and other nutrients. The stems of trees are mainly composed of fiber bundles. The supporting function of stem is mainly borne by wood fibers in xylem. Although the stems of woody plants will become thicker year by year, in a certain time range, the number of woody fibers in the stems is certain, that is, the cross-sectional area of the stems is certain. After investigation, the cone trunk has the following characteristics:

1. The same material, the circle has the largest area. Geometry tells us that the area of a circle at this time is larger than that of any other shape. If there are as many materials to make the largest thing, of course, the circle is the most suitable. Water pipes, gas pipes, etc. It is an imitation of this natural phenomenon.

2. Cylindrical shape has the largest supporting force. The weight of a tall crown depends entirely on a trunk, especially fruit-bearing fruit trees, which need strong trunk support to survive without bending the trunk. This form can be used in buildings, such as angle steel.

3. The conical trunk can prevent trauma. As we know, the cortex of trees is the channel through which trees transport nutrients. If the bark is seriously damaged, the trees will die without nutrition and water. Trees are perennial plants, and it is inevitable that they will suffer a lot of external injuries in their lives, especially natural disasters. If the trunk is square, flat or has other edges and corners, it is more vulnerable to external impact damage, while the round trunk is different. When the wind blows, no matter which direction the wind blows from, it is easy to pass along the tangent direction of the circular surface, and only a few parts are affected. It can be seen that there are many benefits of conical trunk branches, which are gradually formed by plants in order to adapt to the natural environment.

In the process of my observation and understanding, I not only know that everything in the world is always developing in the most adaptive way to the environment in order to survive, so are plants, but also reveal the mystery of conical trunk, increase my knowledge, and combine what I have learned with practice, which not only consolidates what I have learned, but also improves my interest in learning, and initially learns scientific observation and analysis methods.
