Extended data:
The remains of 6 1 various animals were found in Hemudu site, mainly distributed in the first and second phases, especially in the first phase. Most of these relics were broken because the ancients discarded them after eating them. Among them, there are 3 species of invertebrates and 58 species of vertebrates, among which mammals are the most, in addition to reptiles, fish and birds. The pigs and dogs found in the ruins are domesticated animals.
Among the pig specimens found, 90% were young individuals and adult individuals, and the proportion of pottery pigs found in the first phase was between wild boar and modern domestic pigs, which proved that there was the behavior of raising pigs to eat meat at that time. Dog specimens unearthed from the site are obviously different from wolves. Suspected dog droppings were found in residential areas, which proves that dogs were domesticated at that time.
In addition, more buffalo specimens were found, indicating that it was possible to domesticate buffalo at that time. Other animals are obtained from hunting, including elephants, rhinoceroses, elk, red-faced monkeys and other species that no longer exist in the wild in Zhejiang. According to research, the remains of these species should be locally produced.
