School of Instrumental Science and Optoelectronic Engineering of Beihang University originated from 1952 Aircraft Equipment Teaching and Research Department at the beginning of Beihang University. In order to meet the urgent need of 1958 "Two Bombs and One Satellite" inertial guidance, Mr. Qian Xuesen proposed that Mr. Lin Shiquan, the founder of inertial technology in China, set up a laboratory of "Pneumatic Gyroscope and Inertial Navigation", and developed the specialty of Pneumatic Gyroscope and Inertial Navigation on this basis.
