What is public English?
Introduction to pets.

In order to meet the needs of social development, provide assistance services for foreign language learners, promote the transformation of foreign language teaching in China from exam-oriented education to quality education, and improve the national foreign language quality, the National Public English Examination System (PETS) was launched nationwide for the first time under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. The test is supported by the British Overseas Development Agency (ODA) and its English testing experts, which makes the test more authoritative. PETS is an all-round examination system open to the society, and it is a grade-level examination that provides target reference for applicants. It follows the principles of science, justice, accuracy and standardization, and pays special attention to examining candidates' communicative competence. The examination includes a written test and an oral test, which comprehensively examines the listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities of candidates. Those who pass the written test and oral test will be awarded the National English Grade Certificate by the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education. The certificate of conformity can not only serve as an authoritative proof of the English level of the holder, but also provide a fair and unified evaluation scale for the English level of the talents used by all localities and units.

The national English level certificate unified examination is a non-academic certificate examination, and candidates are not restricted by age, education, occupation and household registration. Anyone who wants to take the exam can sign up. When registering, you must hold an ID card. Soldiers and armed police personnel hold military and police certificates. If you don't have personal documents, you can register for the exam at each test center with your household registration book. When registering, you should pay the registration fee and two small one-inch bareheaded standard photos (black and white or color photos are acceptable), and fill in the national English test registration form.

In the initial stage of promotion (before 2002), the PETS Band 5 exam will be held in spring and autumn. The time for starting examinations at all levels is tentatively set as: March 1 Grade B, Grade 2, Grade 4 and Grade 5, and September1Grade 3 and Grade 5 written examinations. Each registration (usually two months before the exam) and the date of the exam will be notified separately. During the written test, candidates must bring 2B pencils, erasers, blue or ink pens or ballpoint pens.
