It is named after Shoushan, which is produced in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, and its nearby villages. It is a precious colored stone unique to China. Collected by collectors at home and abroad.
Shoushan stone has been developed for a long time. According to the archaeological excavation report, stone arrows and chisels made of Shoushan stone at the end of Neolithic Age about 4,000 years ago were found in Fucangshan cultural site in Fuzhou. During the Southern Dynasties, Shoushan Stone was first used to carve artworks. After 1500 years' development, it has integrated the language of natural beauty and artistic beauty, and formed a "Shoushan Stone Culture" with its own unique meaning, making it famous far and near. She is a wonderful flower based on the fertile soil of China culture and an important part of traditional art in China.
After a long period of historical and cultural accumulation, the contemporary Shoushan stone culture has rich connotations and a wide range, involving religion, philosophy, ethics, history, literature and art, psychology, mining, industry, commerce and many other fields.
The stone appreciation culture of Shoushan Stone is also a kind of "Fujian culture" with regional color. In the vast history, she lived, lived and developed together with "Min people", and was deeply branded as an ancient and modern Min people.
Fuzhou, the hometown of Shoushan Stone, is located on the southeast coast of China and belonged to Fujian and Vietnam in ancient times. Beautiful mountains and rivers, rich in humanities, known as "Zou Lu by the sea". Since the Yongjia Rebellion in the Western Jin Dynasty, the northern Han immigrants moved to Fujian on a large scale. In the process of integration with the local people, the vast and magnificent Central Plains culture has been constantly edifying the local culture of ancient Vietnam, giving birth to the "Min Culture" which combines China culture with the culture of the adherents of ancient Fujian and Vietnam. It was during this period that the art of Shoushan stone carving began to sprout.
During the Tang and Song Dynasties, sculpture developed rapidly. During the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, it became popular to treat printing with lacteal stone. Shoushan stone has won the appreciation of seal engravers and collectors for its clean jade, softness and easy attack. On the basis of inheriting the ancient jade seal and steel seal buttons, artists created a unique art of Shoushan stone seal. Since the Qing Dynasty, Shoushan stone culture has flourished unprecedentedly. Not only famous sculptors and masters come forth in large numbers, but also literati spare no effort to write poems and articles, and do their best to study and admire them from all aspects, which makes Shoushan Stone ascend to the elegant hall. They endowed Shoushan Stone with spirituality, charm, interest and emotion. Two records of stone viewing by Gao Zhao and Mao Qiling during the reign of Kangxi initiated the study of Shoushan stone. During the Republic of China, Gong Lun, Zhang Zongguo and Chen Zifen's monographs such as Shoushan Stone Spectrum, Shoushan Stone Textual Research and Shoushan Seal Stone Xiaozhi left valuable historical materials for future generations.
When I was a child, I was lucky enough to live in Yuexiang Street at the foot of Wushi Mountain. Deeply loved by Mr. Chen Zifen, he studied painting in class and studied under Chen Zifen, Gong Lun and Pan Zhulan. In addition to their profound attainments in epigraphy, calligraphy and painting, they are all predecessors in studying Shoushan Stone. Influenced by it, he has devoted himself to the artistic creation and cultural research of Shoushan Stone for more than forty years.
After Shoushan Stone Annals 1982 was published by Fujian People's Publishing House, Meng encouraged him to send it to the China Book Fair held in Hong Kong and it was sold out. Over the past 20 years, although more than 10 shoushan stone books have been written and edited, most of them have been published overseas. Last year, with the support of Fujian Fine Arts Publishing House, I began to write Shoushan Stone in China, aiming at comprehensively, systematically and deeply discussing Shoushan Stone and its carving art, and promoting Shoushan Stone culture. In order to make the new book academic, knowledgeable, informative, ornamental and practical, I made a special trip to the mining area for a month of field research. With the help of teachers and farmers, nearly 100 mines were inspected, first-hand information was obtained, and some historical documents and social misinformation were corrected, which made the content richer and more informative.
This book is divided into five parts: Shoushan Stone Appreciation, Shoushan Stone Mining Area, Shoushan Stone Classification, Shoushan Stone Sculpture and Shoushan Stone Artists, all of which are the results of study and research.
Shoushan stone culture is extensive and profound, and its carving skills are becoming more and more sophisticated, so it is difficult to complete it in one book. Limited to knowledge, time is short, there are omissions, please advise the master. Yan Zi ..........................
