-reading Chen zuoding's new work
Lu Xun
Recently, I saw a batch of unpublished new works by Senior Brother Ding, and I was refreshed after reading them. After reading it, I still feel unforgettable.
Brother Zuo Ding, I'm six years old and it's my birthday this year. But his paintings show no signs of decline. Instead, they are getting older, more refined and more atmospheric. Their abundant artistic vitality is like the mighty Yangtze River flowing down, like the mountain breeze and the morning breeze. Enough to inspire people and prolong life.
He painted mountains and rivers with a lot of pen and ink, but he painted freely, but there was no ancient painting method or today's painting method. The whole department is original, which can be described as Chen Jiashan. He has never learned from a school, and the only teacher is nature. With a free and frank heart and God, he got the essence of nature, turned it into a gully in his chest, and endowed paper with his original pen and ink form. The houses, trees, cattle and sheep he painted make people feel close and lovely, full of the tranquility and warmth of local life. These are the scenery of Sichuan that he is familiar with. They are handy and make the finishing point, which makes his scenery not only pleasant but also livable. However, among these landscape figures he casually walked out of, I don't know how many life sentiments, pen and ink tempering and artistic courage are contained.
What is his fundamental experience of the height and purity, realm and style of artistic creation? I think it is the "independent spirit and free thinking" put forward by Mr. Chen Yinque in the Inscription on the Monument of Mr. Wang Guantang in Tsinghua University. These two sentences and ten words are the most valuable proverbs for academics, art and life.
The so-called independent spirit: first of all, independent personality, including self-esteem, self-confidence and sincerity. Zuo Ding walked on his own artistic path step by step, never relying on ancient celebrities, never following the fashion, never boasting that he had studied a certain school, never caring about professional titles, never caring about the gains and losses of fame, and showing incomparable sincerity and respect for art, which is difficult for those who make a living from art, gain fame and fortune, and persist in the stepping stone of powerful people.
The so-called free thought is the awakening of subject consciousness and the promotion of creative spirit. Zuo Ding's paintings are not bound by the law of formation, by the outdated painting concept, by some pragmatic utilitarian purpose, and by the temptation of market economy. It is broad and spacious that everything is forgiven, thus creating a vast space for his own free creation. However, the freedom of thought and creation is based on solid skills. A person's incompetence is bound by his own conditions and subjective freedom. In order to overcome subjective freedom, Zuo Ding has been making unremitting efforts in many aspects. For example, his habit of reading is to enrich his mind and activate his thoughts, and also to consolidate the foundation of China cultural tradition, a traditional Chinese painting. He tried to overcome the inconvenience of old age and still insisted on going to nature to get inspiration for artistic creation; He keeps practicing calligraphy every day, never leaving his body, so that his skill keeps growing, and he is free and unrestrained. He also focused on the development of Chinese painting and absorbed some elements of western painting, such as further abstraction and generalization, strengthening the sense of blockiness caused by a lot of splashing ink and the proper use of light. All these make him as an old man still maintain the youthful vitality in the painting, and the realm of pen and ink keeps up with the times.
As Ding Xiong's art, it is more and more exquisite, more and more simple and naive, more and more free and natural, and it blends things with me, achieving a high degree of unity between art and life and clearly showing the true self of a mature artist.
