D "Preface to College English Writing" This series of English writing textbooks follows the spirit of "Syllabus for English Majors in Colleges and Universities" promulgated by the Ministry of Education, and strives to meet the needs of writing teaching for English majors in different grades, aiming at helping students write high-quality graduation papers in English when they graduate. We hope that writing teaching can not only train students' written English expression ability, but also cultivate and improve students' ability to analyze and solve problems needed for independent scientific research, so as to transport high-quality and high-level English talents for national economic construction and educational development.
At present, there are many English writing textbooks published, but most of them are independent textbooks or English writing manuals, lacking a series of textbooks that run through the whole teaching process of English majors and are connected with each other and suitable for classroom teaching. One of the purposes of compiling this textbook is to fill this gap and provide a set of writing textbooks for English majors, so that teachers can use them smoothly and students can use them effectively. In order to make this set of teaching materials really helpful to teaching, we would like to explain the following problems.
The ability of written expression is an important indicator of the comprehensive quality of English majors, which has been paid more and more attention at present. For the teaching of writing course for English majors, the syllabus has been stipulated and required, but due to the differences in specific circumstances, the implementation of it varies from place to place and from school to school. Some freshmen start writing classes as soon as they enter school, while others don't start writing classes until the next semester of Grade One or Grade Two. The progress of teaching varies from school to school, and some of them cannot complete the teaching tasks stipulated in the syllabus because of insufficient class hours, so it is very difficult for students to write academic graduation thesis. At the same time, the syllabus itself has a problem of continuous improvement in practice and continuous adaptation to the needs of students' work after graduation and the rapid development of national economic construction.
