How many words does IELTS write?
IELTS composition is 250-320 words.

The IELTS official requires that the big composition should be no less than 250 words; But in actual writing, too many or too few words will affect the score. It is recommended that the number of words be controlled at 250-320.

Candidates need to complete two compositions in the IELTS writing test. Among them, composition 2 (also called big composition) accounts for a large proportion, and it is required to write an argumentative essay according to different problems. In addition to content and genre, there are also certain requirements for the number of words.

Composition 2, candidates need to write no less than 250 words, which is a clear instruction written on the test paper. However, in the real examination process, many students will encounter two kinds of problems.

First, the number of words written is not enough: for example, when dealing with some big compositions with uncommon topics, some students will not be able to write 250 words because of the limitation of vocabulary and ideas;

Second, due to the accumulation of many expressions in advance, the words written far exceed the requirements, and even the completion of the small composition is delayed because of too long time. These two situations should be avoided as much as possible in the usual preparation and study, because too few words will affect the completion of the article content, thus affecting the score;

And too many words will delay time, and the other will bring the risk of content redundancy. Therefore, it is suggested that it is safe and appropriate for students to control the number of words in the big composition between 250 and 320 words.
