How to add a page number table of contents to a paper should be explained in detail at the beginning of the next page! Better have a video. Thank you!
First, add a basic page number.

Microsoft Word provides the following two ways to add page numbers. Either way, page numbers can appear in the header and footer areas at the top and bottom of the page.

1. Add a basic page number to the header and footer-just insert the page number.

Inserting directly into the whole document is relatively simple. Click Insert → Page Number → Page Number Displayed on Home Page → Format, select the number format to be inserted, select the starting page number as 1, and click OK.

Detailed process description:

1) Click Page Number on the Insert menu.

2) In the Location box, specify whether to print the page number in the header at the top of the page or in the footer at the bottom of the page.

3) In the Alignment box, specify whether the page number is left-aligned, center-aligned or right-aligned with respect to the margins; Or aligned relative to the inside or outside of the page binding line.

4) If you don't want page numbers to appear on the home page, you can clear the "Show Page Numbers on Home Page" dialog box.

5) Select other necessary options.

2. Add page numbers and other information, such as date and time.

1) On the View menu, click the Header and Footer command.

2) If you want to put the page number at the bottom of the page, click the Switch between Header and Footer button on the Header and Footer toolbar.

3) On the Header and Footer toolbar, click Insert Page Number.

4) Select other necessary options.

Note: Page numbers are automatically inserted into the left margin of the header or footer. To move the page number to the middle or right, in Header and Footer view, click before the page number, and then press Tab.

Second, the page number (starting from one page)

When using Word, if the page number of an article is not displayed on the first m pages, it will be displayed from the m+ 1, but the displayed page number should start from 1. How to solve this problem?

Method 1: (recommended). Note: Different computers may be different. If the following methods are not available, please search online.

For example, for an N-page document, the page number should be inserted from page m+ 1, and the previous page M should not be inserted. The steps are as follows:

1. Move the mouse to the last position on page M, then click Insert-> Delimiter-> section break as "Next Page", and click OK to move the mouse to page m+ 1;

2. Click Insert → Page Number → Display Page Number on Home Page → Format, select the page number format to be inserted, select the starting page number as 1, and click OK. At this time, we can see that the page numbers from the third page are 1, 2, 3. ..............................................................................................................................................

3. On the m+ 1 page, double-click where the page number is inserted. At this time, the toolbar of "Header and Footer" will pop up, and click the button "Same as the previous section" (or "Link to the previous section" in a higher version) (this function is turned on by default, and clicking is equivalent to canceling this link, and the words "Same as the previous section" in the upper right corner of the footer will disappear, which is also said by some materials.

4. At this point, you can go back to any place where the page number is inserted in the M page, double-click and press delete to delete the page number, and all the page numbers on the M page will disappear.

If you want to insert a page number in other symbol forms in the M page that just has no page number, you can directly use the steps in the first case above, and it has no influence on the page number starting from the next page m+ 1. Similarly, you can also insert page numbers in other symbols in the document from the third page.

Method 2

Step 1: Insert/separator/next page at the end of the first page, and the cursor flashes at the top of the second page.

Step 2: Execute the "View/Header and Footer" command and open the "Header and Footer" toolbar;

Step 3: Click the "Header and Footer Switch" button on the "Header and Footer" toolbar to switch the cursor to the footer on the fourth page, and then click the "Link to Previous Page" button to close the link between the footer on the second page and the footer on the first page;

Step 4: Insert/Page Number/Format, select the page number format, select the starting page number 1, and click OK. At this point, the page number is set and inserted from page 2.

Method 3 (you can try it if you have a good computer level)

Separate the table of contents from the text.

No matter how many pages your directory has, the first thing to do is to separate your directory from the text (just like saving the directory and the text as two files, which can be operated separately). The operation is to position the cursor before the first word of the text, use the separator command in the Insert menu, and then click "Next" in the section break type option bar at the lower part of the separator window to confirm. At this point, the document is divided into two parts: the table of contents and the body. The next thing to do is to set different formats.

Second, set it separately.

First, position the cursor on the page where the table of contents and text are located, and then use the page setup command in the file menu respectively. After entering, select the layout options page in the page setup window, select this section in the Apply to drop-down option box at the bottom of the page, and then click OK to exit (usually, the system defaults to this section after inserting section break, so in order to ensure correct operation, it is best to confirm it separately).

Because the only page difference between the table of contents and the body is whether there is a page number, you only need to set the page number format, and you don't need to set other formats. First, delete the page number of the table of contents (you don't need to do this step if it doesn't exist), then position the cursor on the page where the text is located, use the Header and Footer command in the View menu, click the Link to Previous Page button (the ninth button in the toolbar) to cancel the link, and then click the Format Page Number button (the fourth button) to enter. Check "Starting Page Number" in the "Page Number Arrangement" option bar at the bottom of the page number format dialog box, and select the page number of the first page of the text in the blank box after "Starting Page Number" according to your requirements, in this case, 1, and then confirm and exit.

In this way, the page numbers of the table of contents and text are set. Using separators, you can divide a document into several parts and set them separately, which can be applied to many aspects. You can try different settings.

create a directory

First, position the cursor where you want to put the directory, and use the index and directory commands under the reference menu in the Insert menu (the lower version of WORD can directly use the Insert Directory command in the Insert menu). After entering, select the directory options page in the index and directory window, and then make corresponding settings, and you can insert the directory.

But the premise of this operation is that you have set all the title words in the text as titles (there are three styles of title 1, title 2 and title in the style box tool button), and then the system can identify and automatically complete the directory extraction operation. On the other hand, if all the styles in your text are words or other styles that are not titles, the system will tell you "Error, no table of contents found", and this operation cannot be completed.

This is where you must pay attention when creating directory commands. Make sure the title text conforms to the title style, otherwise the table of contents cannot be created.

Method 4

When editing a document with a table of contents or an appendix using Word 2000/2002, the page number should be inserted into the preface before the table of contents or the text. After operation and setting, it is found that the page number in the text starts from n+ 1 If there are appendices or editorials behind the text, the page numbers will be arranged downwards after the last page of the text.

For example, when we finish writing the table of contents, we will perform the operation of "insert → page number", assuming that the page number starts from 1 In order to eliminate the phenomenon that the body page number is followed by the directory page number, we perform Insert → Delimiter (pop-up window) → section break Type (option bar) → Next Page (n) → OK at the beginning of the body part, and then double-click the page number of the first page of the body part to bring up the header and footer setting window. Then click the "Same as Previous Page" button to change the default header, footer and page number format from "Same as Previous Page" to "Different from Previous Page" (please note the difference between the buttons before and after the change, the former has a blue border, but not after the change). Then delete the page number (note: delete the page number position, not just delete the characters), and then we can find that the original page number in the text has disappeared. Then we can insert a new page number in the text, but at this time we should pay attention to setting the correct page number start page. After you set the page number of the body, you can use the same steps to re-page the appendix.

This method can not only flexibly insert appropriate page numbers in different parts of the same article, but also set different page numbers in different formats. For example, the table of contents adopts the format of I, II, III, IV … and "center", and the text adopts the format of 1, 2, 3, 4 … and "right".

Third, delete the page number.

Method one

Double-click the header or footer and press the delete key to delete.

1。 Double-click page number

2。 Check the page number box

3。 delete

Method 2

1. Click Header and Footer on the View menu.

2. If you put the page number at the bottom of the page, on the Header and Footer toolbar, click Switch between Header and Footer.

3 Select the page number. If the page number is inserted by using the Page Number command on the Insert menu, you should also select the frame around the page number.

4 press the Delete key.

Precautions:

1)Microsoft Word will automatically delete the page number of the whole document. If you want to delete the page number of a part in a document, you must divide the document into several sections and disconnect the sections.

2) If the page number of the first page of the document is different, or the headers or footers of odd pages and even pages are different, you must delete different headers or footers respectively.

4. I set the page number format in WORD, and the edited page looks completely correct, but when I print preview, the page number becomes {page}, and the printing is not normal. What happened?

Start WORD, and in-<; Options >-<; Print >, just remove the check mark before "domain code" in "printing additional information of documents" (cancel).
