Many international research institutions and non-profit organizations have introduced some name recognition systems, hoping to solve the problem of distinguishing and identifying authors through their unique identifiers. Among these identifiers, ORCID can realize data interaction and interconnection between different systems, and associate and aggregate the scientific research output of the same scientific research worker in different systems, which can improve the existing scientific research ecosystem in a limited way.
The names of scientific researchers are varied. In the process of publishing scientific research results, there will be repeated names of researchers, multiple names of the same researcher, translation order, abbreviations of western names, homophones or similar words, which will lead to confusion of uniqueness of researchers and distortion of attribute information. Therefore, in order to accurately associate researchers' logos with their published works and promote the organization and standardization of scientific research results to the greatest extent, global academic publishing institutions such as Thomson Reuters Group and Nature Publishing Group launched the ORCID project in June 2009.
