Ma, Professor of Chinese Department of Peking University. I started writing and publishing short stories from middle school. Published more than 50 related papers. He is the author of The Art of Liaozhai (Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House, 1986) and The Art of Fiction (Peking University Publishing House, 199 1). Editor-in-Chief, Appreciation of Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio (Lijiang Press,1992; Taipei Jian 'an Publishing House, 1996). Later, I went to the Literature Department of Kyushu University to give lectures, during which I visited the Liaozhai Library of Keio University twice and copied fifteen manuscripts lost there back to China. After textual research, sorting out, discarding the false and retaining the true, Seven Kinds of Remnants of Liaozhai (Peking University Publishing House, 1998) was published, and a copy of the manuscript was donated to Pu Songling Memorial Hall for free.
