I think Brunei people are proud of Chun Wu. Whether Chinese or Malays, when dealing with Brunei National Television for the first time, the other side also regarded Chun Wu as a talk. However, the older colleagues looked puzzled, hahaha.
There is also a Beijing immigrant who works as a teacher in a local international school (yes, China people can't go to the same school as Muslims), and Chun Wu can often be seen driving his daughter to school.
His family business started with real estate, and his father Wu ran a real estate company in Wenlai. His business scope spans China and Brunei, and he is a local real estate tycoon. Wu Fuji Automobile Company, founded by his uncle Wu, is one of the best automobile agents in Brunei, accounting for one-third of the national automobile sales every year. Chun Wu's uncle is also the founder of the local gammon construction and one of the directors of Brunei Times. It is said that his mansion in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, covers an area of 1000 square meters and is luxuriously decorated. He is one of the top ten richest people in Brunei, and was named "Gabidan" by the Brunei royal family, ranking higher than Datuk. He is also a member of parliament. He is invited to participate in royal activities, big and small, every year.
In a word, Chun Wu is also a very active public figure in the local area. Brunei has no sense of existence in the international community. Only through Chun Wu can so many people know about this country. I am currently doing research on Chinese in Brunei, and my master's thesis is also about Chinese in Brunei. Besides, I went to Brunei for a period of field work, so I have something to say about Chun Wu.
1. The Chun Wu family has a high status in Brunei, including its prestige in Chinese society. When we went to Du Dong Zhonghua School, the name of the school was inscribed by his grandfather. At least, their family is already rich in his grandfather's generation.
2. We had more contact with China people and chatted about Chun Wu. Those elders just think that Chun Wu is a child next door, nothing special. But he is filial, motivated, excellent, and good at investing and making money. As for young people, most of them study in Hong Kong, Britain and Australia. In addition, Brunei is so small, the capital is smaller, and the Chinese circle is not big. It is not difficult to go to Chun Wu's home. Therefore, Chun Wu may have a child next door in the Chinese community. As for Brunei, he seems to be the ambassador of Brunei, because he is indeed the most famous person in Brunei except Sudan. However, having a China ambassador shows that Brunei is very tolerant.
There is no saying that "China people can't go to the same school as Muslims". First, there is no concept of "Islam". May refer to Malays who believe in Islam. There are Chinese schools, Malay schools (government schools, free of charge), British schools and international schools in Brunei. Are all ethnic groups. Brunei also talks about further studies. As we all know, China people attach great importance to education, so the enrollment rate of local Chinese schools is much higher than that of Malay schools. Or take Du Dong Chinese School as an example. The grandson of an uncle who received us is the only Chinese in his class, and the others are Malays. Originally, I wanted my grandson to learn Chinese, but later I got 6666 in Malay literature.
