Liu Ruiyu's Major Achievements
The composition, distribution, community and ecological characteristics of benthos in China were systematically expounded. The cold water biological community in the Yellow Sea was discovered for the first time, and the flora and community division scheme were put forward, which corrected the mistakes and shortcomings of predecessors. This paper systematically summarizes the characteristics of coastal environment and resources in China and Shandong Province, puts forward a reasonable development plan, and promotes the development of aquaculture with remarkable benefits. Predict the three Gorges

The impact of the project on the ecological resources of the Yangtze estuary provides a basis for the project demonstration. In the study of crustaceans, the taxonomic flora of several groups has been clarified and many new species and genera have been discovered. It is pointed out that the Yellow Sea was formed late, with young flora and few endemic species. Fauna of China is an important document, which is compiled in four volumes: whiskers, mysids, prawns and stomatopod. It is the first time to find out the life history of prawns, which has promoted the development of artificial breeding and aquaculture of prawns in China, and put forward the methods to evaluate the replenishment, survival and prediction of young prawns and the suggestions for rational release, which are among the best in the world.

Since the early 1980s, Liu Ruiyu and his research team have carried out an experimental study on the proliferation of shrimp and fish resources, that is, the research project of "marking and releasing" to proliferate shrimp seedlings. Through the follow-up investigation of released young prawns, the movement and growth laws and characteristics of China prawns were mastered. They created a method to estimate the survival rate and recapture rate of prawns, and set a suitable number and position of prawn larvae in the sea area to supplement the wild prawn population. Liu Ruiyu's "Ecological and Biological Resources in Jiaozhou Bay" and related papers are the results of their resource proliferation experiments. These works systematically summarize the relationship between environmental factors and biological resources in specific areas and the results of resource proliferation. The statistical data obtained from the experiment of resource proliferation during1981-1993 and the statistical results of shrimp fishing yield in Jiaozhou Bay show that the practice of resource proliferation has achieved remarkable results and the effect of increasing production is obvious. They estimated that the number of prawns in JIAOZHOU Bay 10 from August to June in 2000, and the prawn catches during 1983- 1986 and 1988- 1992 all increased significantly, which was three to four times that in the year when prawns were released. Compared with the low yield of 1982 and 1987, it is proved that the increase of shrimp catch is the result of increasing the population in the sea area by releasing shrimp seedlings. Liu Ruiyu has published 72 papers on crustacean taxonomy and biology, 65 papers on marine ecology, and 40 papers on marine biological resources and aquaculture, covering crustacean taxonomy, biogeography, main economic shrimp and crab population biology, resource proliferation biology and aquaculture biology, as well as zoogeographical division of marine invertebrate and benthic ecology in China, national comprehensive marine survey, national comprehensive survey of coastal zone and tidal flat resources, formulation and implementation of survey norms, etc.

By the end of 2007, Liu Ruiyu and his students had named 394 new species, established 4 new genera of 6 crustaceans, and published 3 volumes of Myxomycetes, Amphibians and Perithorax and 2 volumes of Amphibians.

The taxonomic study of decapod shrimp is the research content of Liu Ruiyu for many years. 1955 published his first monograph, Economic Shrimp in Northern China, which is still an important reference widely cited in China.

Liu Ruiyu obtained various crustacean specimens in a series of comprehensive oceanographic surveys and coastal zone surveys in China. In addition to decapod shrimp, Liu Ruiyu's research also involves other crustaceans, such as amphibians, sticky feet, amphipods, Diptera, isopods and so on. By the end of 2007, Liu Ruiyu and his students had named 394 new species, established 4 new genera of 6 crustaceans, and published 3 volumes of Myxomycetes, Amphibians and Perithorax and 2 volumes of Amphibians. Liu Ruiyu and his collaborators summarized the latest research results of crustaceans in the above-mentioned fascicles, comprehensively expounded the faunal composition and distribution characteristics of these six main crustaceans, and detailed biogeographic analysis provided a reliable basis for their faunal division.
