Quality education is the core of contemporary education. Quality education has been carried out in China for many years, and the slogan of reducing students' burden has been shouted for many years. However, because the idea of exam-oriented education has not completely changed for a while, the burden of middle school students is still quite heavy at present, and the most prominent point is the students' homework burden. Now students spend a lot of time and energy on homework, and reports about students' homework burden are often seen in newspapers. This phenomenon is of course caused by China's education system, but to some extent, teachers as gardeners also have certain responsibilities. When the teacher assigned homework, did he really consider the students' burden, and did he seriously think about the appropriate homework and what should be assigned? How many topics should be assigned? All these require teachers to think deeply.

I. Suggestions on English homework assignment

1. Improve students' initiative

To strengthen students' initiative and enthusiasm in learning, the most fundamental thing is to make students realize the necessity of English learning and homework, to urge them to participate in English teaching in a heroic state, and to actively complete the tasks and homework assigned by teachers without delay or fooling. Junior high school students are in the stage of rapid growth and development, and are gradually forming their own outlook on life and world. Therefore, as far as teachers are concerned, they need to be persuasive and make students really realize the importance of assigning homework. In the process of English teaching, assigning homework is an indispensable job. Homework is a supplement and continuation of classroom teaching, which can consolidate what students have learned in class and play a good review role. Through homework, teachers can check the effect of English teaching and give guidance and help according to the specific situation of students' homework. If students can't understand the meaning of homework, they can't finish it on time and with good quality.

2. Teachers should establish a new concept of homework.

In the long-term exam-oriented education practice, a considerable number of English teachers have formed a deformed concept of homework. In their concept, homework is an exercise with unique answers assigned by them, usually in the form of written questions, and sometimes some homework for reciting texts is assigned. Moreover, when assigning homework, these teachers usually just summarize and sort out the contents of textbooks or texts, failing to cultivate students' divergent thinking and often confined to the contents of textbooks. The most distorted thing is that in the usual homework assignment, in order to get high marks for students, teachers try their best to ensure the similarity between the usual homework questions and the exam questions. Among them, the simulation test paper has been highly praised by teachers and has become an ideal type of homework in their hearts. Such a view of homework makes the homework in English teaching gradually limited to textbooks, lacking the combination and application with real life.

With the continuous implementation of the new round of basic education curriculum reform, junior middle school English teachers should gradually improve their concept of homework, enhance their awareness of systematic curriculum, and change and improve their teaching concept. Judging from the current situation of junior high school English education, it is very necessary to consolidate the use of English words, deepen memory and understand the skills and methods of exams. Then, in the long run, it is undoubtedly more meaningful to let students apply what they have learned in the process of doing homework and provide students with opportunities to contact life and reality. Students can get more extensive opportunities to communicate with each other. In this case, English homework is no longer just to cultivate students' ability to cope with exams, but more importantly.

3. To control the workload, choose the work content and pay attention to the diversity of work.

When assigning homework in junior high school English, we should try our best to grasp the main and key parts of the knowledge points, make it less but more precise, and pay attention to its diversity in the design of homework. Any single form of homework assignment is not conducive to cultivating students' interest in learning English, while adopting diversified homework forms can effectively mobilize students' learning enthusiasm and concentrate their learning attention.

Relevant research shows that the most important thing for students to maintain their long-term interest in learning is to be mentally satisfied and feel happy about learning, so as to maintain their interest and continue their research. Interest is the best teacher. Students have an innate interest in the courses they study and naturally have a strong motivation to learn. Teachers can select and refine the content of homework, or use game-based practice methods, which can enhance students' interest in learning, stimulate their curiosity and thirst for knowledge, and push students to the active side of learning. Through proper exercise assignments, students can master, understand and consolidate textbook knowledge, comprehensively strengthen students' inductive and deductive abilities, and realize high-quality learning under light workload.

According to the characteristics of junior high school English, as far as the types of homework are concerned, there are mainly multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, translation questions and homework. From the nature of homework, there are dynamic exercises and operation training. From the structure of homework, it is necessary to set appropriate homework for students to practice according to certain teaching objectives, so as to ensure the systematicness and integrity of English knowledge learning.

4. Homework varies from person to person, and homework should be graded.

In a junior high school class, it is impossible for all students to be at the same level of intelligence. Teachers need to consider all students and students of different levels when designing teaching content. When assigning homework, we can divide the homework content into different difficulty levels in a planned way. For students with learning difficulties, homework content should be closely related to the basic knowledge of the course, and training should be carried out on the most basic knowledge points to meet each other in quantity and difficulty. For intermediate students, make sure that they can train a general and slightly difficult complex after completing the basic homework. For top students, we should try our best to get in touch with topics that are comprehensive, broad and flexible. This can not only satisfy the thirst for knowledge of top students, but also reduce the learning pressure of middle school students, which is of great help to students with learning difficulties, so that they can finish the homework assigned by their teachers on time and improve their self-confidence. For example, change the sentence "He helped me yesterday". The passive voice can be arranged as follows: (1) Students with learning difficulties. I was beside him yesterday. (2) medium size. I was scolded by him yesterday. (3) top students. Change it directly to the passive voice. This is a very simple example, but it can properly reflect the difference in assignment.

Arranging different homework according to students' different learning situations can give students appropriate pressure and free them from the sea of questions. Proper homework can improve students' interest in learning. Completing homework on time can also make students feel successful, promote the cultivation of students' information and interest, activate students' creative thinking and fully tap the potential of each student.
