1928, Shanghai Beixin Bookstore published the collection of Dreiser's short stories "Marriage" translated by Zhang Yousong. In the early 1930s, Qu Qiubai, a great pioneer of the New Literature Movement, wrote an article introducing Dreiser. In his article The Real Tragedy of America, he called Dreiser a great writer who described American life, which opened the prelude to the spread and acceptance of Dreiser and his works in China. Dreiser is a famous American writer. After his works were translated into China, they had a far-reaching influence on China's literary world. Therefore, sorting out and studying Dreiser's translation history in China is a very meaningful topic. Based on the theory of translation studies, this paper investigates the translation of Dreiser's works in China, analyzes Dreiser's translation and reception process from the perspective of cultural studies, and discusses translation strategies, such as how translators and readers influence the choice of translation strategies. The introduction part of this paper briefly introduces Dreiser and his works, and explains the research significance of this paper. The text of this paper is divided into three parts: The first chapter traces China's translation and introduction of Dreiser's works and the publishing process of his research since the 1920s and 1930s, which is divided into three periods: before liberation (19 17- 1949) and after liberation (1949-65438+). The second chapter is a cultural analysis of Dreiser's translation and introduction in China, and analyzes the influence of social culture and ideology on the acceptance of Dreiser and his works in China. The third chapter mainly discusses the choice of translation strategies. The study of translation in translatology is based on the study of culture, not just the criticism of language. This chapter mainly discusses the influence of translators and readers on topic selection and translation strategies in translation. What role does the position of translated literature play in the choice of translation strategies? The conclusion part is a summary of the full text. By combing and studying the history of Dreiser's translation and introduction, we can see that influenced by culture and social ideology, Dreiser's translation and introduction process in China is long and tortuous. The author hopes that the case study of Dreiser will be helpful to the whole study of translated literature, thus promoting the research and development of translated literature.
