First, China traditional music mainly adopts pentatonic scale. Compared with the major and minor tone system of western music, it is obviously insufficient in personality and expressiveness.
Second, the structure is not obvious. When I listen to China traditional music, I often can't recognize the development of music. It seems to be reincarnation, with no head and no tail. Unlike sonatas, symphonies, etc. In western classical music, it has such a rigorous structure.
Third, the differences in musical instrument collocation and coordination. China's national musical instruments are short of musical instruments with special sound, such as violin, as well as brass pipes and timpani, which can create brilliance and shock. At the same time, China traditional folk music has no harmony, which makes solo and ensemble appear thin and lack of hierarchy.
This is just a comparison between our shortcomings and the advantages of others. Many people in the music industry are willing to compare "the low popularity of China symphony" with "Europeans take it for granted", but there is no need to compare with Europe. Because the symphony was originally European folk music, Europeans used both church music and performance accompaniment. It is an art form that Europeans have always liked. This is to the European audience what opera is to the China audience. If Europeans are allowed to listen to Peking Opera, it will be difficult for them to get ahead. Generally speaking, China's traditional music gives people the feeling of being introverted, and the expression of feelings is subtle, without the emotional catharsis of western music. This is closely related to the traditional culture of China and the long-standing character of China people. Of course, oriental music and western music are two completely different systems, and it is impossible to compare their advantages and disadvantages. In fact, China's traditional music is profound. As a treasure of China culture, it should be handed down from generation to generation. However, due to the times, at present, China's traditional music is not easily accepted by most people in China and the world. Western music has been developing, and so has our national music. We should learn from others and absorb the advantages of western music. Moreover, it is much better to take a form that can be accepted by the public and not fall into the stereotype, so that our folk music can be deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, which is much better than making folk music a "study" thing for a few people.
Here I think of the popular "12 girl band". To be sure, the packaging is visually good and comfortable, but it seems to be lacking in music. I've heard some of their songs, but I haven't heard them for the second time since I heard them once. Several songs are basically folk music melodies adapted from R&; B, the rhythm of rock or dance music, and even imitative elements, feels like folk music is hard covered with the shell of western music, some of which are neither fish nor fowl, and the arrangement of music is also very noisy, kitsch and too commercial. Our folk music reform should not be like this.
China's folk music is still going to the world, and Song Zu Ying is a good example. She brought China's folk music to the Vienna Golden Hall, Sydney Opera House and Kennedy Music Center, and made it popular in Europe, Australia and America, so that people all over the world could learn about China's folk music and teach westerners how to play authentic China music with western instruments.
In fact, music knows no borders. The more national it is, the more cosmopolitan it is.
