Peasant Painting after 1980s —— "Modern Folk Painting" which absorbs and inherits traditional folk art forms and depicts local conditions and customs. Peasant painting with the characteristics of traditional folk art has formed its own unique style, which is a new kind of painting in the painting category and a remarkable feature different from other kinds of painting. Longmen peasant painting embodies the traditional folk culture in southern China. After 1989, a number of peasant paintings with unique abstract style were created, which were different from other peasant paintings in Huacun.
After 1990s, some customers from Hong Kong came to Longmen to buy peasant paintings. After years of trading, some peasant paintings with China folk festivals and festive customs are particularly popular. In order to ensure the survival of the painting school and the funds needed to carry out peasant painting activities, a number of "folk paintings" with beautiful images, bright colors and lively pictures were created. This painting method has also been recognized by the higher cultural departments. Marry the Bride and Drink Honey won the second prize and the third prize in the National Farmers' Calligraphy and Painting Competition held in Shanghai, and six farmers' paintings such as Spring Breeze of Urban and Rural Reform and Prosperity of Villages and Towns won the first, second, third and excellent prizes in the Guangdong Farmers' Moral Songs Calligraphy and Painting Competition respectively. Tan Qifa's paper "On the Artistic Features and Implication of Longmen Peasant Painting" won the first prize of Guangdong Popular Culture Paper. Longmen peasant painting, which fully displays the traditional folk culture in southern China, won the third prize in the 99 China Modern Folk Painting Theory Seminar.
