● It is problematic to unilaterally identify SCI papers and impact factors when evaluating scientific research achievements. These indicators can be used as a reference, but not as a decisive factor.
● Doing creative scientific research is really not smooth sailing, smooth sailing. It must go through long and hard work, and you must never copy other people's works.
After 30 years of reform and opening up, the economy has continued to develop, people's lives have improved significantly, and national strength has been greatly enhanced. However, at the same time of development, some new problems have emerged. From the social environment, there has been a tendency to pay too much attention to material things, and education, health, culture, art, scientific research and other fields have a tendency of marketization and practicality. This requires us to strengthen the guidance of ideas. Some social problems have eroded into academic, scientific research and education fields, and have also had a certain impact on college students.
Two years ago, the Ethics and Rights Committee of Science and Technology Workers of China Association for Science and Technology reported and analyzed some problems existing in the construction of science and technology ethics and study style, and pointed out some problems in reality, such as plagiarism, forgery, tampering with data, encroachment on other people's scientific research achievements, repeated publication of papers, poor quality of papers, irresponsible education and so on. These have a great influence on young people.
College students should have lofty ideals and strong interests.
Now impetuous and grandiose mood is very serious. For example, cheating in exams, despite repeated prohibitions, is still heard from time to time. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the ideological guidance for undergraduates and postgraduates. I think the most important thing for college students nowadays is to have lofty ideals, a little ambition and ambition. Now college students may be most concerned about whether they can find a good job after graduation. The standard of a good job is first of all a generous salary, not how good the job is for the growth and development of his enterprise. Some people's dreams are that after graduating from college, they want to go to graduate school, get a doctorate, become a postdoctoral fellow, then become an associate professor or professor, or win an award in our field. I don't think this can be called a lofty ideal.
Our lofty ideal is that college students can contribute to their major in the world in the future and promote the development of this subject. This is one aspect. The second aspect involves more college students, that is, in the future, they can solve bigger problems and do more things to play a better role in the economy or scientific research and education for the country. With these ideals, the usual study and research work will have enough motivation.
If you have an ideal, you must have a strong interest in research. Interest is a very important aspect of our work. So, is interest innate? In fact, interest itself can be cultivated. When you have been in contact with a certain field for many years, your level in this field is higher than that of the people around you, and then your interest is often stronger. Research needs persistent pursuit and long-term efforts.
Perfecting management system to prevent academic misconduct
There are many factors that cause academic misconduct. First of all, we should strengthen the ideological guidance for teenagers, and at the same time, we can take certain measures to improve the management system and prevent academic misconduct. In recent years, we have carried out some quantitative management, paying great attention to SCI papers and impact factors. This kind of management has played a positive role, but it is also related to academic misconduct. For example, SCI papers are very different in various fields, and mathematics is very different from biology and chemistry. Mathematics papers are usually written by one person, and occasionally there are two or three authors. Usually a math paper has a certain length, and the longest one is often an article in a journal. However, each article in the experimental discipline is generally completed by a large group of more than ten authors, and the length of the article is relatively small. Many high-tech papers, such as computer science, cite almost all the documents in the last three years. There are not many documents cited in general mathematics papers, and 80% of the documents are three years ago or even decades ago. Therefore, the influence factor of a good mathematical journal is probably 1, but it is different in biological and chemical journals.
Twenty years ago, it was positive to encourage young people to publish articles internationally and praise SCI papers. However, it is problematic to unilaterally identify SCI papers and influencing factors. These indicators can be used as a reference, but not as a decisive factor. In fact, the impact factor has been approximated by at least four steps: the impact factor replaces the quality with the number of citations, and the quality of the article depends on the number of citations, which is an approximation; The citation of an article is replaced by the citation of a published journal, which is a quadratic approximation; There are too many periodicals in the world, and the citation is limited to the source periodicals, not all the periodicals in the world, which is the third approximation; Even if only the source periodicals are counted, if all the years are counted, the workload is also very heavy, so only the source periodicals published within two years are counted, which is the fourth step approximation.
The most important thing in scientific research is to look at innovation. There are many great mathematicians in the world, and they only have about a dozen papers in their lives. But they all have high standards and have played a great role in their respective fields. The most important thing to evaluate scientific research work is peer review, and it is best to have some international experts to review it.
Creative scientific research is not an easy task.
If we want to do modern research, we must make full preparations. Mathematics, for example, is a gradual process. Even if you graduate from the department of mathematics, you can't reach the forefront of a certain field. You need to continue taking some courses to keep up with the forefront of modern research. Only with a foundation can we do research work. Some people may ask, are there exceptions? For example, Hua only has a junior high school diploma. Is it an exception? Actually, it is not. Mr. Hua is brilliant and studious. He taught himself high school courses, took part in all the math courses in Tsinghua, and then continued to engage in research work, including two years of research work at the famous Cambridge University.
In the specific research work, we can refer to the three learning realms mentioned by Mr. Wang Guowei. The first realm is "last night, the west wind withered the green trees, climbing the stairs alone and looking at the horizon." Just like when you were in college or at the beginning of your research, you kept climbing. The higher you climb, the farther your vision will be. You have to climb and accumulate very hard. The second realm is to really enter the research work-"I don't regret the gradual widening of clothes, I am haggard for Iraq." You have a good topic, found a good idea from the past literature, and mastered new literature at the same time. There will be many difficulties before you get a good result, which can't be easily solved. In the process of research, you must try different methods and keep trying to explore. The third realm is "looking for him in the crowd, suddenly looking back, that person is there, the lights are dim." When you have exhausted all possibilities, there seems to be nothing you can do. Suddenly, one day, you think that a road you have considered is actually feasible. Of course, don't think this is an opportunity. This is the realm that can only be achieved by a lot of preparatory work in the early stage.
Through these three realms, young people should know that doing creative scientific research is really not smooth sailing, and it must go through long and arduous efforts and never copy other people's works.
