The opera "Canal Ballad" is a work that took two years to create. Taking the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal as the background, this paper tells the tragic and touching story between Qin, Shui Honglian and Guan Yan.

In the play, soybeans, white rice and peanuts reflect the national characteristics of China, such as soybeans, white rice, peanuts, tea oil walnuts, bamboo skins, tea leaves, flowers, ducks, lions, porcelain satin flowers, clothes, shoes and hats, plaid cloth, brown sugar shochu, persimmons and fruits.
