Some people not only copied, but also fabricated foreign co-authors to believe in themselves-"They became more and more confident that their works should not be buried, so they began to quote their own problem papers."

A few years ago, a European mathematician and his colleagues in China jointly published three papers. In one of them, he pointed out that this research was completed during his visit to the Mathematics Department of Columbia University. "Thank you very much for your warm hospitality."
Until 2020, three papers were rejected by journals, and "European mathematicians" also showed their true colors-the rejected papers were not only suspected of plagiarism and peer review fraud, but also had a nonexistent correspondent-Beatriz Ychussie from the School of Mathematics of Roskilde University in Denmark.
Roskilde University confirmed that there is no such scholar in the school and it is impossible to get in touch with this person.
The three papers involve two China authors: Yan Zhenhai, lecturer of henan university of economics and law Institute of Statistics and Big Data, and Li Zhiqiang, vice president of Henan University Business School.
So far, neither scholar has explained how they "met" a European mathematician without this person.
In response to the inquiries from the reporter of China Youth Daily and Zhongqing, henan university of economics and law said that he was investigating the matter and had made preliminary suggestions on Yan Zhenhai. Henan University also confirmed that Li Zhiqiang was being investigated by the scientific research department of the university.
On June 15, academic counterfeiters Smut Clyde and Tiger BB8 (Chinese net name "Tiger Beating"-reporter's note) published a report on a website concerned with academic integrity: in international mathematical journals, a group of papers from China showed consistent traces of fraud, including fictional foreign authors and fictional mathematical formulas, which were frequently quoted and copied from each other. Sixty-five papers were found to be false-2 1 of them were withdrawn.
The so-called paper journalists come from Japan, Thailand, Nigeria, Egypt, Brazil, Mexico and Australia. The 77 domestic authors who signed the thesis are distributed in 44 universities, including Central South University, Hunan University, Harbin Engineering University and other key universities.
"The fictional stories are almost the same, and they are all the research results made by this foreign author during his short visit to foreign universities." Disguised as a tiger, he told the reporter of China Youth Daily and Zhongqing.com that these fictional foreign authors were either announced by the contracting unit that there was no such person, or they had no other works except the papers "cooperated" with these China authors.
Of the 65 problem papers, 14 were supported by the National Natural Science Foundation, and some were supported by the Science Funds of Heilongjiang, Sichuan, Shanxi, Henan, Hebei and other provinces.
During the interview, it was found that some China authors of these papers applied for doctoral degrees as academic achievements, some used them to declare the title of associate professor, and some used them to win scientific research awards.
There is no such person.
Yan Zhenhai was one of the first authors to withdraw the manuscript. On February 4th this year, the mathematical magazine Progress of Difference Equations announced the withdrawal of a paper he wrote on 20 15. The correspondent of the newspaper is Beatrice Josie. At the time of submission, Yan Zhenhai was studying for a Ph.D. in the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Central South University, and his other paper in the same period had a similar situation. According to the retraction statement published in the mathematical journal "Fixed Point Theory and Application" on February 27th this year, a paper co-authored by Yan Zhenhai and Nagoya University scholar Ikudol Miyamato was retracted for forging peer review and fictional author.
