Religious English thesis
Language is an important part of culture, and different cultures reflect the same or different cultures. Goodnow pointed out in Cultural Anthropology and Linguistics: "The language of a society is an aspect of its culture, and language and culture are part and whole. As a part of culture, language is characterized by being the main tool for learning culture, and people acquire the whole culture in the process of learning and using language." (1) (P 109) Every nation has its own culture, which is formed in a specific natural environment, historical conditions and social reality and has its own particularity. Idiom is a unique and fixed expression in the process of language, which embodies the thought and wisdom of the nation. Generalized idioms include idioms, proverbs, idioms and allusions. English and Chinese have a long history and contain a large number of idioms. They are concise, comprehensive and vivid, giving people a kind of enjoyment of beauty. However, because they come from different living environments, religions, history and customs, they carry different national cultural characteristics and cultural information, which makes translation difficult. By comparing English and Chinese idioms, this paper starts with the cultural differences between English and Chinese, finds out the reasons and puts forward the translation methods of English and Chinese idioms.
