Shen Fei Shipborne Aircraft Paper
Why is China's J- 15 the only heavy carrier-based fighter in the world?

As a fixed-wing carrier fighter in China, J- 15 is one of the most expensive fighters in China. It is reported that the cost of a single J-15 fighter plane reached 400 million RMB. In addition to the extensive use of new technologies, the main reason is the low production of this fighter.

However, it can also be seen that China spared no effort in the investment of J- 15 fighter.

The first aircraft carrier take-off and landing of J-/KOOC-0/5 fighter was in October/KOOC-0//KOOC-0/2/KOOC-0/0. By the end of 20 18, China J- 15 had been on the aircraft carrier for nearly six years. According to external analysis, the successful development of Shen Fei J-15 has ended the history of no carrier-based fighter in China, and more subsequent improved and new carrier-based fighter models will be opened.

So, where is the technical and tactical performance of J-15 carrier-based fighter in the world?

In fact, J-15 is not a newly developed model only from the aerodynamic shape analysis. It is based on Shen Fei 1-2 Su -33 prototype T- 10K-3 and J-1 1B developed by Shen Fei at that time, adding new technologies.

J-15 has deep technical homology with Su -33 and J-1 1B in essence, but its overall technical performance is better than that of Su -33 in Russian navy.

歼-15 has a captain of 22.28 meters, a wingspan of 15 meters and a height of 5.92 meters ... The aircraft has a maximum takeoff weight of 32.5 tons, a maximum flight speed of Mach 2.4, a maximum ceiling of 20 kilometers and a maximum range of 3,500 kilometers.

As for the power system of J-15, it is believed that the aircraft is also equipped with the AL-3 1F engine provided by Russia, which is one of the reasons why China had to purchase a large number of AL-3 1F engines from Russia after it stopped importing Su -27 and Su -30.

However, according to domestic media reports, J-15 will soon be replaced with a new turbofan-10B, and this engine will also be installed on domestic fighters such as J-16 and J-10C.

Of course, the above technical indicators are only the ex-factory design of J-15. However, J-15 can't actually reach the above-mentioned factory design in many technical data because it needs to take off on its own power on the Liaoning ship.

For example, J-15, although the maximum takeoff weight is 32.5 tons, must ensure that it can take off from the Liaoning ship 14-degree upward sliding springboard. In fact, it can't take off at the maximum takeoff weight.

Moreover, according to the photos and videos of J-15 carried by Liaoning ship for many times, J-15 usually hangs only two Eagle Strike -83 anti-ship missiles and two Thunderbolt-12 medium-range air-to-air missiles on the two-wing pylon when taking off, which is a fairly small mounting standard.

However, J-15 has 12 weapon external points in the factory design, including: 2 wingtips, 6 under the wing, 2 under the engine inlet, and 1 before and after the fuselage centerline. These pylons can mount domestic airborne weapons such as air-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, rockets and aerial bombs.

Therefore, in order to achieve the maximum technical performance of the factory design, J-15 should be improved to the ejection take-off mode. At that time, J-15 should be the world's heaviest heavy carrier aircraft.

By then, J-15 will be able to carry out the long-range air defense mission of the U.S. F- 14 carrier-based fighter, and build the farthest air defense interception barrier outside the carrier battle group.

The number of J- 15 fighters should exceed 20. With the domestic 002 aircraft carrier coming into service, the total number of J-15 fighters may be close to 50. However, this figure is not a large group in the fighter formation in China.

As a heavy carrier-based fighter, J- 15 has become the only heavy carrier-based fighter in the world. Especially as the first carrier-based fighter in China, the technical level of J- 15 is a fighter with a very high start.

In the future, with the continuous improvement of J- 15 carrier-based aircraft technology in China and the deeper understanding of carrier-based fighters in China Navy, it is believed that the new generation of carrier-based fighters in China Navy will reach a higher level.
