What's the difference between a teaching master and a research master?
Generally speaking, master courses in foreign universities are generally divided into two categories: coursework/teaching and research.

As the name implies, the so-called master of teaching course is a teaching-oriented learning method, and students complete their degrees by studying courses, completing subject assignments and exams. This is not to say that such a master only needs to learn classroom knowledge, which is very different from undergraduate study. Master of teaching means not only learning classroom knowledge, but also getting credits through seminars, handouts and exams. Finally, you can get a master's degree by submitting a small thesis or taking a graduation exam. Research-oriented masters focus on special topics and submit papers after independent research under the guidance of tutors. The thesis passed, the defense passed, and the degree was obtained.

A research-oriented master is a specialized study of a certain subject. If students want to do in-depth research in their chosen major, or plan to enter the doctoral stage, choosing a research-oriented master is the best choice. If students intend to find employment after graduation, they should choose a master's degree in teaching, because a master's degree in teaching trains students' research ability, teamwork and public speaking or research ability, which is more in line with the needs of employment.

As far as Australia is concerned, almost every university will offer research-oriented master's and curriculum-oriented master's courses, and most international students will choose the latter for a simple reason:

According to the admission requirements, the research-oriented master needs to contact the tutor of the applied subject before applying, and submit the plan and recommendation letter. In contrast, the teaching type pays more attention to grades and professional relevance, and sometimes needs work experience as the background.

In terms of curriculum, the research-oriented master is generally 2 years. During this period, besides attending classes, there are also papers, project experiments, literature exploration and so on. Teaching type 1 to 2 years, similar to undergraduate course, completing all kinds of homework and exams.

After graduation, teaching-oriented masters will choose to work in enterprises, while research-oriented masters will generally continue their studies or go to research institutions. In terms of immigration, you can get 5 points for both research and teaching, provided that you have studied full-time for 2 years.
