Introduction to glass batching and melting
The manufacture of glass has a history of more than 5000 years, with a wide variety and wide application. Today, people's commonly used products, such as window glass, glass, wine bottles, beverage bottles, glasses, TV picture tubes, car windshields, etc., all come from glass. In recent decades, glass has also played an important role in new fields such as information, communication, atomic energy, electronic technology and biochemistry.

China is a big glass producer. There are many kinds and varieties of glass products, and the output is also great. For example, the output of flat glass ranks first in the world. Glass must go through two major processes in the manufacturing process: batching and melting. The main task of batching is to prepare qualified glass batch, and the melting of glass is to heat the batch at high temperature to form uniform, bubble-free glass liquid that meets the molding requirements. Glass batching is the premise to ensure the quality of molten glass, and glass melting is the most important stage in glass production. Many defects of glass products are related to batching and melting process, so the control level of batching and melting of glass products is directly related to the production qualification rate, quality and fuel consumption of glass products, and affects the economic benefits of enterprises.

At present, there are few textbooks and books on glass batching and melting in China, which are closely related to practice and have strong practicability and operability. Many factory technical managers engaged in glass technology and students majoring in inorganic non-metallic materials are eager for it. Therefore, on the basis of collecting the latest technical monographs and papers in the glass industry in recent years, the editor collected a large number of practical technical materials, sorted out the most valuable information on glass batching and melting, and compiled this book to meet the needs of the majority of glass technicians to learn the latest professional knowledge.

Chapter 1 of this book introduces the characteristics and main properties of glass, discusses the design elements of glass composition, and introduces many latest typical glass chemical compositions with examples. The second chapter introduces the types and functions of glass raw materials in detail, and lists a variety of glass formula design methods. In the third chapter, various physical and chemical changes in the process of glass melting are described in detail, and some knowledge of glass melting furnace equipment and melting operation is introduced. The fourth chapter discusses the causes of glass defects and the ways to overcome them.

This book is rich in content, concise in text, rich in technical information and practical. It is especially suitable for technicians engaged in glass technology and managers of glass workshops, and can also be used as teaching materials for students majoring in inorganic nonmetallic materials in colleges and secondary specialized schools. This book is edited by Chen Guoping and written by Comrade Chen Fu. It is divided into three chapters and six sections, three chapters and two sections, and four chapters and four sections.

In the process of writing this book, Professor Li provided a lot of detailed information. Professor Yin Hairong reviewed the book and put forward suggestions for revision. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks here.

Due to the continuous development of glass production technology and the limited level of editors, there are many inappropriate places in the book, so I hope readers can criticize and correct them.
