The ubiquitous law of power
I have met train salesmen by train before, not to mention how mature their sales skills can quickly attract the attention of most passengers. What's the problem with the accuracy of the goods they choose to sell: low value and easy to consume? Passengers with running water will not think of complaining about salesmen or businesses if they lose them directly. Just look at these salespeople's eloquent explanations, making the passengers bow down with laughter and can't help but slap them. The atmosphere is quite warm ... I am thinking that if these people become actors on TV and give speeches on the stage, they should not be worse than professionals.

Such people are really everywhere in our lives. For example, Tony, the teacher of the hair salon, often recommends hairstyles to you with ecstasy and confidence, to the training manager of the insurance company, and to the executives of WeChat business. All walks of life have their own top talents-this is the power law.

1895, Italian economist Fairfredo? When Pareto studied the distribution of wealth in various countries, he found a very interesting phenomenon-the wealth of various countries presents a distribution model, with a few people occupying most of the wealth and most people owning a small amount of wealth. On the coordinate axis, this is a distribution where the head seriously wants to move closer to the left and the tail of the Great Wall is dragged. Mathematically, the product of the number of connections and nodes is a constant value, which is called "power law distribution". Simply put, in a system, if 10 people have 100 yuan, then 100 people have 100 yuan, while 10 people only have 10 yuan.

The first characteristic of power law is unevenness. The most popular expressions are "28 Rule", "Matthew Effect" or "Long Tail Theory". 20% customers bring 80% business, 20% people bring 80% wealth, and 20% vocabulary brings 80% information. Soon, scientists found that this distribution is ubiquitous in nature and abortion society. The frequency of earthquake eruption, the distribution of crater diameter on the moon, the distribution of characters in language, the distribution of national population, the number of clicks on web pages, the number of citations of papers and the distribution of Oscar prizes all conform to the power law. This distribution is called "predictable imbalance". To put it bluntly, unfairness is a normal state.

The second important feature of power law is fractal. Parting means "after each figure is subdivided, each part is a whole reduced shape". The same shape is repeated over and over again on different scales, which is fractal. This situation can be seen everywhere in nature. Human lung cells are very similar to river basins on land. You can see this fractal phenomenon on leaves and snowflakes.

So is the social system. The GDP between cities conforms to the power law, the business scale of these cities conforms to the power law, the departmental importance of these enterprises conforms to the power law, and the importance of people in these departments conforms to the power law. For a specific person, the input-output ratio of doing things also conforms to the power law.

The best people in each small segment are similar in the degree of Excellence. The IQ and ability of an excellent salesman who travels between urban and rural areas are not worse than that of a top expert in an investment bank. Similarly, even in the most competitive fields, some people muddle along and the level is just the same. They are just stuck in a head industry, and their income is much higher than that of ordinary people.

Excellence is a simple embodiment of the rules of power law, namely, the right time, the right place, the harmony between people, the homeopathy, the Ming Dow and excellent skills. Whether it is Sun Tzu's art of war or business ethics, opportunities and booths are placed in front of personal efforts. Instead of lamenting social injustice, it is better to take the lead in the track as soon as possible, seize the head and enjoy the bonus.

This world is unfair. Stop complaining and accept the reality. Class differentiation is the inevitable trend of an open society; Keep learning, broaden your horizons, improve your efficiency and move in the right direction. Since we know that an effort will have completely different benefits in different positions, since we understand the imbalance of the world, why not take the initiative to move to a place with high probability?
