It refers to borrowing something closely related to it instead of saying what you want to say directly, or replacing the whole with a part of something. This is metonymy.

Metonymy can make the language concise, vivid and vivid, and arouse readers' association.

Example (1):

Women don't lose to men.

Replace women with "women" and men with "men". )

Example (2): The wine in Zhumen stinks and there are frozen bones on the road. Du Fu's "Singing 500 Words from Beijing to Fengxian"

("Zhumen" is used for rich people, and "bones" are used to drive away corpses. )

Ex. (3): After all, Qian Fan is nothing. Jiangnan dream The second is Wen.

Sailing boats were replaced by sails. )

Example (4): Yellow hair, drooping eyes, enjoying themselves. "Peach Blossom Garden" Tao Qian

Borrow the old man with "yellow hair" and borrow the child with "drooping". )

Ex. (5): She hopes to be angels in white when she grows up.

("angels in white" is used instead of a nurse. )
