On the Orientation and Development of Modern University Library

In view of the present situation faced by the library, this paper puts forward that the modern university library should make strategic adjustment and overall design for its own positioning and development with innovative consciousness. It also discusses from four aspects: innovating the concept of running the library, changing the service consciousness, cultivating talents and coping strategies.

2 1 century, mankind has entered the digital and networked information age, and the content, depth, form and means of university library work, which takes information service as its own responsibility, have undergone all-round changes. Therefore, it is an urgent problem for us to change the existing concept and mode of running a library. The author believes that modern university libraries should broaden their horizons with innovative consciousness, and make strategic adjustment and overall design for the future development of libraries with new ideas, new ideas, new goals, new perspectives and new means.

First, innovate the concept of running a library and establish a people-oriented management idea.

Most of the existing libraries in China are public libraries set up according to major universities or administrative divisions. This system is not conducive to the enjoyment of resources and can not give full play to the role of libraries. This management mode is not suitable for the management and service mode of modern libraries. Therefore, it is necessary to fundamentally change the concept of running a library and reposition the development direction of the library.

(1) Change the traditional service mode and operation management mechanism. The concept of library management and service should be changed from traditional library to modern library. From focusing on storage to focusing on use, gradually establish a reader-centered concept; The concept of running a museum should be changed from relatively closed to more open; The management mode should be changed from measurement management to target management. This requires us to break through the traditional development ideas, adjust the traditional function settings, and change the traditional service model and operation management mechanism. Adopt advanced scientific and technological means such as computer and network to take the road of digital construction.

(B) establish a people-oriented management thinking. The core of library innovation is to truly embody the people-oriented management thought. We should actively absorb the advanced concepts and service concepts of libraries at home and abroad, regard people as the subject, premise and motivation of all library activities, and determine the position of people in management. People-oriented management thought is the basic guiding ideology to coordinate interpersonal relationships, create a harmonious atmosphere and team spirit. At present, the "people-oriented" management thought has aroused widespread concern, which embodies the respect for people and the recognition of values. This concept should be fully embodied in the management of university libraries.

(3) Establish innovation consciousness, improve innovation ability, establish innovation mechanism and optimize innovation environment. Because the existing library lacks a good incentive mechanism and does not attach importance to the education and training of librarians, the situation of low efficiency, low quality, poor service quality and serious brain drain of librarians lies in the serious defects in the management mechanism of the library. The application of new technologies based on the Internet and the arrival of the era of knowledge economy have strongly impacted the traditional concept of running a library. We believe that the innovation of the concept of running the museum will definitely produce the brand effect of tomorrow. To establish a brand library, we must boldly explore and innovate with a scientific attitude.

Second, change the service consciousness and extend the service items.

The service attitude of library staff is an important issue related to the image, status and development of the library. It is an urgent problem for university libraries to change service consciousness and improve service quality. The service of the library can't be the service that waited for readers in the past, but should take the initiative to think of readers, adopt changing service contents and methods, and pursue the dynamic service of readers' needs. That is to say, the library should change passive service into active service, extend service items and deepen service contents.

(A) to create a fast and efficient service environment. With the acceleration of global informatization, many network-based services have appeared in libraries, such as document delivery service, home page service, network navigation service, retrieval service and electronic reference service. Therefore, to do a good job in modern service, we must create a fast and efficient service environment. In other words, we should change our ideas, change our style of work, enhance our service awareness, and strive to improve service quality and efficiency. Internally, we should practice basic skills, master and use various modern retrieval tools skillfully, and enhance our business skills and knowledge. With the requirements of enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, quickness and responsibility, the consultation procedure is further simplified, and the AB angle system is implemented to provide quality services for teachers and students, so as to meet the needs of teachers and students for various information resources from different angles. We should constantly enhance our sense of purpose, public servant and service.

(two) the establishment of reader demand information and service feedback system. Demand information and service feedback must be investigated. Investigation and research can usually take various forms, such as truthful investigation, questionnaire investigation and internal investigation. Through in-depth reading and education, we can understand readers' information needs and ask readers' satisfaction with the service attitude of library staff. The main evaluation subject of library service attitude is readers, and "whether readers are satisfied" is the only criterion to measure the quality of library service. Facts have proved that through investigation, consultation and information collection, readers' opinions on the library can be widely understood, decision-making can be provided for library services, service behavior can be effectively optimized, service attitude can be changed, and a good library image can be guaranteed.

(C) the importance and urgency of developing network services. Librarians have long been accustomed to the face-to-face service for readers. Although the pace of digital construction has been accelerating in recent years and the concept of digital library has been gradually accepted by people, most librarians have not clearly realized that network service is the main service form of digital library. Many libraries have gradually enriched their digital resources, but their services have not kept up, resulting in low utilization rate of a large number of digital resources or failure to give full play to their advantages. Therefore, first of all, we should clearly understand the importance and urgency of developing network service, and realize that network service is an important work that will keep pace with paper document service.

Third, cultivate and bring up talented people from a strategic height.

It is an important and urgent strategic task in the development of library cause under the network environment to cultivate and bring up a high-level and high-quality talent team from a strategic height. Information service industry should implement talent strategy. First of all, we should formulate a mechanism to attract and motivate talents and establish a system that respects knowledge and talents. On the one hand, attract high-quality talents to work in the library; On the other hand, we should stimulate the enthusiasm of employees. Secondly, it is necessary to train employees to become compound talents, even if they know some professional knowledge of information service and have the theoretical basis of information management, technical knowledge and skills in foreign languages and computers. Create a good learning environment in the library. Regular training courses are held to train employees on information sources, improve their information acquisition and innovation ability, and encourage employees to learn by themselves. We should optimize the personnel structure and develop human resources. The talent structure of university library should be a multi-disciplinary professional structure.

Librarians in the network era should not only have knowledge of library science, but also have relevant computer knowledge and network knowledge, and also have the cultural quality of various disciplines to become compound talents for interdisciplinary research. Therefore, the managers of the library should carry out on-the-job training and business assessment for them in a planned way, and constantly enrich all kinds of modern knowledge. We should provide professional training for employees by going out and inviting them in. Through various forms of professional training, the comprehensive quality of librarians is constantly improved to meet the needs of the new situation.

(2) Strengthen computer and network knowledge training. With the rise of digital library, university libraries have entered the era of man-machine integration, and computers have entered all fields of library work. For example, librarians serve readers through computers and networks, use computer technology to collect, process, store and control information resources, and organize and screen online information resources. Therefore, modern librarians should attach importance to the study of the basic theory and application skills of modern technology, understand and master the composition and operation methods of computers through study and training, be familiar with various online resources, and master the methods and skills of obtaining online information resources. At the same time, we should be familiar with the database and retrieval language commonly used in our library, understand various operating systems, and learn to use computers skillfully to purchase, catalog, circulate and borrow books. , and can operate all kinds of service software in the library.

(3) Strengthen foreign language knowledge training. With the further expansion of China's opening to the outside world, international exchanges and cooperation have become increasingly frequent, resulting in a large number of documents in various languages. Many of the latest achievements are often reflected in foreign literature, especially the opening and development of the Internet, which has realized the sharing of global network information resources in a certain sense. According to relevant statistics, more than 90% of the information on the Internet is in English. As a librarian who uses information, he must have a high level of foreign language in order to consult and develop foreign language documents skillfully.
