On the Charm of China's Calligraphy
China's calligraphy is the quintessence of the Chinese nation. For thousands of years, countless literati have been intoxicated by it and constantly explored. At present, the vast number of calligraphy lovers at home and abroad have set off an upsurge of learning and collecting calligraphy. In order to better introduce China's calligraphy art, this paper briefly introduces the types and appreciation of China's calligraphy, so that the audience can initially understand the origin and characteristics of China's calligraphy, know how to appreciate it and enhance their understanding of the quintessence of the country.

First, why do you say China's calligraphy art?

We don't doubt whether Chinese painting is art, but not everyone can explain why China's calligraphy is art, and China's calligraphy, like that of other countries, is written. Why can only China's calligraphy become art? This involves the essential attribute of calligraphy art. Whether China's calligraphy can become an art can be clearly analyzed from the following aspects.

(1) First, the writing tools are different. Brush is the only writing tool in ancient China. Brushes are hard and soft, with long front and short front, and pens for writing Chinese characters. The strokes written with a brush can vary in thickness, weight, Fiona Fang, dryness and wetness, which is conducive to the formation of a sense of rhythm and rhythm, which is needed for artistic expression, but the hard pen does not have this function. The brush has a rod-shaped brush, which can "protrude from all sides", which is convenient to turn around and is conducive to the charm of calligraphy works and the dynamic expression of calligraphy. When the words are written, they are full of vigor and vitality. Although the artistic words with a brush have aesthetic feeling, they lack dynamic feeling. Brush can make the lines round and thick, with three-dimensional sense and sense of force, which is a vibrant performance and is conducive to the expression of the feelings of the book. The unique function of the brush is beyond the reach of other writing tools.

(B) Chinese characters are conducive to the modeling of calligraphy art.

1. Chinese characters are independent in form. Chinese characters are basically "square" characters, which are roughly the same as real cursive scripts, with roughly the same width and convenient horizontal and vertical arrangement. The vertical arrangement of writing from top to bottom is beneficial to the charm of calligraphy. Latin words are of different lengths, disorder and rank, and can only be arranged horizontally, not to mention the charm.

2. The strokes of Chinese characters are criss-crossed and interspersed with each other. It provides an indispensable condition for the beauty of Chinese characters. Latin letters are simple in form, with few alternating strokes and monotonous lines, which is not convenient for modeling. Art forbids similarity, and there can be no sense of art in monotonous phonetic symbols.

3. Chinese characters are complex in structure and vivid in form. Chinese characters consist of more than 300 different parts, while Latin has only more than 20 letters. The combination forms of Chinese characters are complex, including left-right structure, left-middle-right structure, up-down structure, up-down structure, half-package structure, all-inclusive structure, spelling or inverted spelling. Latin words are horizontally spliced from left to right. There is a strong contrast in the number of strokes in Chinese characters. For example, there are 24 strokes in the word "Xin" and only one painting in the word "Yi", which is beneficial to the change of the size of the characters and the beauty of calligraphy works with different shapes and densities. There are many variants of Chinese characters, which provide convenient conditions for artistic changes. For example, "autumn" and "Su" can be shifted left and right, and the word "goose" with left and right structure can be written as a word with upper and lower structure.

4. Chinese characters are multilingual. There are genuine cursive seals in Chinese characters, and each script can be subdivided into several types, which provides convenient conditions for calligraphers to choose artistic expression forms. You can choose regular script for solemn performance and seal script for simple performance; Re-performance can choose official script; Lively can choose running script; You can choose cursive script if you are bold and unrestrained. Especially cursive script is the best way to express the author's feelings. In addition, the structure of cursive script is unique, and many words are difficult to write in regular script. Cursive scripts often turn them into beautiful words, such as cursive scripts, and turn the right tick of the word "city" into a left tick. This is how the cursive formula "jade is a sharp weapon" comes from, and so are words like "zai" and "thief".

The above is an objective analysis, so what is the subjective aspect of calligraphers?

(3) China's calligraphy incorporates the calligrapher's emotion. China's calligraphy can become an art because after mastering the calligraphy techniques, the calligrapher's emotion, the calligrapher's aesthetic consciousness, his personality, knowledge, experience and many other aspects will be consciously or unconsciously integrated into the calligraphy, which makes the calligraphy have charm, spirit and artistic conception and become the external expression of the calligrapher's spiritual world. It is often said that "words are like people" is the truth.

Let's give an example to illustrate this problem. Ancient calligraphers are far away from us and difficult to understand. We are familiar with Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou Enlai and Master Hongyi. Let's take a look at their calligraphy works. You see Chairman Mao's Scenery of the Northland is magnificent; Zhou Enlai's works are dignified and rigorous; Master Hongyi's works are subtle and elegant. Aren't these works a portrayal of their personalities?

Because of the uniqueness of writing tools and Chinese characters, the calligrapher's mastery of many techniques in calligraphy and the interaction between techniques and calligraphers' emotions, calligraphy has become an art with charm, spirit and artistic conception. China's calligraphy is undoubtedly art and profound.
