A magnitude 3.2 earthquake occurred in Lixian County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province. What caused the earthquake?
Because earthquakes are difficult to predict, prevent, rescue and recover after disasters, it has always been one of the difficult problems that human beings are both afraid and unable to overcome.

With the progress of society and the continuous development of science and technology, we can have a deeper understanding of earthquakes.

At present, there are three theories about the causes of earthquakes that can be recognized by the public.

One is the theory of continental drift, the other is the theory of submarine expansion, and the third is the theory of plate tectonics.

Among them, the theory of plate tectonics is the most respected.

The theory of plate tectonics was put forward by the famous Canadian geophysicist Wilson in 1965. He divided the global lithosphere into six plates: Eurasia plate, Pacific plate, America plate, Indian Ocean plate, Africa plate and Antarctica plate. Because of the active crustal activity at the plate boundary, the volcanic earthquake gathering zone is generally located here.

Different types of earthquakes have different reasons.

According to the causes of earthquakes, earthquakes can be divided into five categories: tectonic earthquakes, volcanic earthquakes, collapse earthquakes, induced earthquakes and artificial earthquakes.

Among them, tectonic earthquake is a vibration caused by the rapid release of long-term accumulated energy due to underground rock movement. This kind of earthquake has the highest frequency, accounting for more than 90% of all earthquakes and the strongest destructive power.

Volcanic movement is an earthquake caused by volcanic activity. This kind of earthquake will only occur near volcanoes, accounting for about 7% of all earthquakes.

Collapse earthquake is an earthquake caused by the collapse of underground caves or the top of mines. Because of its small scale and few times, it generally appears in ore mining areas.

Induced earthquakes are caused by external factors, such as reservoir water storage, oil field water injection and so on. Such earthquakes will only occur in specific areas.

Artificial earthquakes, as the name implies, are caused by human factors, and underground river explosion, explosive blasting and other activities are the main causes of artificial earthquakes.

Through these introductions, do you know the cause of the earthquake?
