There is evidence that aloe vera has anti-inflammatory effect when it is taken locally or orally (Davis et al., 1989). The researchers conducted animal experiments to verify the anti-inflammatory activity of aloe gel extract, and inferred from the experimental results that this activity may be due to the inhibitory effect of epoxidase on arachidonic acid metabolism pathway (Vasquez et al., 1996). Another animal experiment showed that aloe could inhibit 37% of edema in mice, and this inhibitory activity mainly came from sterols in aloe gel, especially lupeol (Davis et al., 1994b).

The antiviral activity of purified aloe extract was studied in vitro. It showed antiviral activity after 12-36 hours of infection (Saoo et al., 1996). In vitro studies with zinc acetate and aloe freeze-dried powder (7.5% and 10%) confirmed the antiviral and spermicidal effects. The researchers concluded that aloe may have contraceptive effects, especially to prevent HIV infection. Aloe contains trace elements: boron, barium, calcium, chromium, copper, iron, sodium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus and zinc.

The protective effect of aloe gel on stomach has been confirmed in several animal experiments. The experimental mice took aloe gel before gastric ulcer induction test. The experimental results show that the incidence of gastric ulcer in the experimental group is 80% lower than that in the control group. After onset, the mice taking aloe gel recovered three times faster than the control mice (Galal et al.,1975; Danhof, 199 1). Similar results were obtained in another animal experiment (Kandil and Gobran, 1979). It is found that triterpenoids in aloe can prevent the occurrence of gastric ulcer (Gupta et al., 198 1).

The immune stimulation test on mice showed that mannan, a polysaccharide component in aloe, could activate macrophages in a dose-dependent manner (Zhang and Tizard,1996; Ramamoorthy et al., 1996). Oral administration of aloe mannan in experimental animals also showed inhibition of cholesterol absorption and reduction of cholesterol level (Tizard et al., 1989). The pharmacological difference between aloe vera gel and aloe juice is that aloe vera gel does not contain any anthraquinone compounds, so aloe vera gel has no laxative effect (Newall et al., 1996). Anthraquinone compounds can stimulate the secretion of water and electrolytes into the large intestine and prevent them from being absorbed by the colon, thus promoting intestinal peristalsis (Blumenthal et al.,1998; Bradley, 1992). Aloe emodin, a degradation product of glycosides in colon, is a laxative metabolite (Blumenthal et al., 1998). Animal experiments show that aloe-emodin and alcohol extracts have antitumor and anticancer activities. In vitro studies have reported that aloin A can induce cells that are toxic to tumor cells (Leung and Foster,1996; Newall et al.,1996; Ren, 1988). However, the National Cancer Institute of the United States no longer studies aloe juice as an anticancer drug.

Overview: Medicinal aloe has attracted worldwide attention. In the United States, Britain, France and Germany, aloe juice is used as a laxative. Pharmacological and clinical experiments have proved that aloe vera gel can be used as an external medicine to treat minor injuries, burns and chilblains. Oral aloe vera gel can be used to treat asthma, oral ulcer and gastric ulcer, and many other potential uses need further study. Since the first century A.D., aloe has provided a large number of precious medicines for human beings. Human clinical trials continue to study the therapeutic use of aloe vera. 1, moisturizing beauty effect:

Aloe polysaccharide and vitamins have good nutrition, moisturizing and whitening effects on human skin. It has certain curative effect on rough skin, facial wrinkles, scars, freckles and acne. Therefore, its extract can be used as cosmetic additive to prepare sunscreen cream, shower gel and so on. Especially for young girls, acne is the most headache. Aloe vera has a good effect on eliminating acne. Aloe vera and emodin belong to anthraquinone glycosides, which can make hair soft, shiny, relaxed and refreshing, and have the effect of dandruff removal.

2, sunscreen effect:

The natural anthraquinone glycoside or anthracene derivative in aloe can absorb ultraviolet rays and prevent skin redness and brown spots.

3, anti-aging effect:

Mucin (protein) in aloe is mainly composed of polysaccharides such as arboranAB\aloemannan\aloetin Aloetin, which is an important component to prevent cell aging and treat chronic allergies. Mucin exists in muscles and gastrointestinal mucosa of human body, which makes tissues elastic. If mucin is insufficient, muscles and mucous membranes will lose their elasticity and become stiff and aging. If mucin is insufficient, the cells that make up the human body will gradually weaken and lose the ability to defend against germs and viruses.

4. Detoxification:

Aloe can eliminate metabolic wastes in the body because it can inhibit excessive immune response and enhance the phagocytic function of phagocytes. Aloin and other components in aloe can promote the liver to decompose harmful substances in the body, and can also eliminate toxins invading from outside the body. Radiation or nuclear radiation can treat burn skin ulcers caused by cancer. Aloe vera can not only detoxify, diminish inflammation and regenerate new cells, but also increase the number of white blood cells reduced by radiotherapy.

5, immune and anti-tumor effects:

Polysaccharides (acetylated glucomannan, mannan, acetylated mannan, aloesin, aloin, etc. ) has the functions of improving immunity, inhibiting and destroying abnormal cell growth, thus achieving the purpose of anti-cancer. Dr. Tomita, a Japanese expert in aloe research, pointed out in the article "Anti-cancer Research of Aloe" (published in 1966) that aloin, aloe cutin, alomycin and other components in aloe can prevent cancer cell activity. Dr Yunan Suzuki, a Japanese aloe research expert, put forward the excellent curative effect of animal experiments in his paper "Anti-tumor Activity of Aloin -A". "Aloe antigen", a high molecular substance in aloe, has agglutination to red blood cells and contains substances that can react with cell membranes. Aloe anticancer element -A has strong physiological activity. Animal experiments have proved that it has anti-cancer effect, which can improve human anti-cancer immunity, increase NK- cells and kill abnormal cells-cancer cells in organisms. Another theory of aloe in treating cancer is "self-healing power", which has proved that aloe can enhance the self-healing power of human body.

6, sterilization effect:

Aloe tincture (Aloe tincture) is a strong antibacterial substance, which can kill fungi, molds, bacteria, viruses and other germs, and inhibit and eliminate the development and reproduction of pathogens. The antibacterial and bactericidal bacteria of aloe are diphtheria, tetanus toxoid, pneumonia, lactic acid bacteria, dysentery bacteria, Escherichia coli, Black Death, cholera bacteria and otitis media, cystitis, suppuration, measles, rabies and children.

7, anti-inflammatory effect:

Bradykinin from aloe can resist inflammation by combining with vascular tension. In particular, aloe polysaccharide can enhance the body's resistance to diseases and cure chronic diseases such as dermatitis, chronic nephritis, cystitis and bronchitis.

8, the function of the stomach:

Aloin, emodin and other effective components in aloe play a role in stimulating appetite and relieving diarrhea in large intestine. Taking proper amount of Aloe Vera can enhance gastrointestinal function and physical fitness. For critically ill patients who have lost their appetite due to evidence, taking aloe can also restore their appetite. Healthy people take aloe for a long time and stick to aloe bath, which can prevent and treat some diseases. (But it is still necessary to provide symptomatic health care according to everyone's situation. Healthy body fluids are weakly alkaline. Overworked or stressful life will make body fluids acidic and susceptible to viruses. Commonly used aloe will keep the body fluid alkaline, keep healthy and avoid catching a cold. Aloe vera is an effective drug to treat constipation caused by excess heat. For severe constipation caused by deficiency of kidney-qi or weakness of spleen-qi, it is necessary to choose foods or drugs with mild nature and benefiting qi for treatment. Taking bitter and cold aloe will aggravate the condition. Therefore, different types of diseases should use different methods, cold is hot, and heat is cold. )

9, strong heart and blood circulation:

Calcium isocitrate in aloe has the functions of strengthening heart, promoting blood circulation, softening and hardening arteries, reducing cholesterol content, dilating capillaries, making blood circulation smooth, reducing cholesterol value, reducing heart burden, keeping blood pressure normal, and removing "toxins" in blood.

10, immunity and regeneration:

Aloin A, trauma hormone and polysaccharide peptide mannan (Ke-2) have the functions of antivirus infection, promoting wound healing and recovery, diminishing inflammation and sterilization, clearing away heat and swelling, softening skin and maintaining cell vitality. Gel polysaccharide combined with guaiacic acid also has wound healing activity, so it is an ideal drug for treating wounds (hemorrhagic wounds and non-hemorrhagic wounds) without leaving scars.

1 1, analgesic and sedative effects:

When finger pain and toothache are unbearable, sticking aloe leaves on the affected area can eliminate pain, neuralgia, gout, muscle soreness and so on. Oral administration plus external use of aloe vera also has analgesic effect. Aloe vera can also prevent and treat hangover, carsickness and seasickness.

12, anti-insect and anti-corrosion functions:

Aloe juice has a good disinfection and sterilization effect. In summer, when the skin is coated with aloe juice, mosquitoes will not bite. Colombians often apply aloe juice to children's feet to prevent pests. Aloe juice is sprayed on doors, windows and indoors to prevent flies from entering. Dai people use aloe juice to prevent flies from entering the room.

13, deodorizing effect:

Aloe vera can prevent foot, mouth, armpit and other body odor. A long time ago, people used aloe to get rid of body odor. When African Congolese hunt, they will put aloe juice on their bodies to avoid being smelled by animals.
