1: find keywords
When you first come into contact with a paper, the homework briefing will tell you what the task is. Spend more time thinking about the topic, find out the relevant keywords, and then find the references according to the keywords. Main search direction:
The first one should be the class textbook, then the intensive reading given by the tutor, and finally the extended reading.
The second is how to find some sources outside the reading list given by the tutor. Generally, you can find some information through the website of the school library and other related academic magazine databases JSTOR, Science Direct and Wiley online library.
The third is newspapers and websites. For example, Google Academic, you can search academic articles including periodical papers, dissertations, books and reports for free, covering various disciplines. Google Academic Search will show the number of citations of your search articles. This number of citations is not accurate, but it reflects the quality of this article from the side. The number of citations of classic articles is absolutely high. At the same time, if you use the author to search, his articles will appear according to the number of citations, so that you can know which of the author's articles are more classic, and you can only read the classics if you don't have much time.
If the above method can't find the full text, search the author's name or the title of the article in Google (not Google Academic Search), and use the title of the article to search, because some foreign websites, such as the libraries of some foreign universities, may hang the full text of our school's academic achievements published in one year or in recent years on the Internet, or there may be such a similar full text on the ftp of this university. This will probably download the full text you want for free. But this should not be the main source of your opinion.
2. Extensive reading to in-depth reading
The purpose of extensive reading is to understand the document framework of resume. At first, we only looked at the introduction part of the document, the conclusion part of the text, and the credibility of the document was judged at the end part, from the author's popularity, the word-of-mouth of the document publication, the time when the document was published, whether it was outdated and so on. Browse the references to see if they are extensive and whether you have read them. When you decide to read in depth, it shows that this document is not only useful, but also your own views on the basic framework of this document are basically clear. Deep reading is further analysis and verification, so you should read with questions, such as whether the assumptions in the article are reasonable, whether the methods can be studied or explained, and so on.
In order to better understand the arguments, evidence and arguments in a topic, we need as many articles as possible. Generally speaking, you should read at least three or four articles before you start trying to build an argument. But in general, quality should be more important than quantity. It is the basis for us to write a good article to carefully study the class textbooks and required reading given by the tutor.
3. Overall review
Taking notes while reading can help readers understand what they read from the article, save the workload for future research, and extract the viewpoints, frameworks, methods and some classic sentences of the literature to guide their future use. After reading the literature carefully and taking notes, you should be able to tell what the main points of this literature are and what you have learned from it. For future reference, we should insist on writing a summary after reading the literature. Write your thoughts about reading literature in your own argument about literature.
