Baldness saved? Transnational research of NTU team: Goose bumps can grow long hair.
The temperature is too low to get goose bumps? Recently, a transnational study led by the attending dermatologist of National Taiwan University Hospital and the cooperation between the team of National Taiwan University and Taiwan Province scholars of Harvard University in the United States found that goose bumps actually hide the germinal code.

Professor distinguished professor Lin Songran, the attending physician of dermatology at National Taiwan University Hospital and the Department of Medical Engineering at National Taiwan University, pointed out that in animal experiments, it was found that when goose bumps appeared, the sympathetic nerves were highly activated. Highly active sympathetic nerve will greatly enhance the activity of hair follicle stem cells, thus accelerating hair regeneration.

Three keys to hair growth: vertical hair muscle, sympathetic nerve and hair follicle stem cells

Professor Lin Songran said that after the development of skin hair follicles and hair follicle stem cells, they will secrete "Sonik Hedgehog Factor" to induce the development of vertical hair muscles, and eventually "sympathetic nerve" will climb and grow in the vertical hair muscles.

In the research, the team found that if the vertical hair muscles of animals are removed, the sympathetic nerves will retreat, leading to goose bumps failure, hair follicle stem cells will not be activated and enter deep dormancy, and hair will not grow.

Professor Lin said that this discovery is helpful to study the application of the mechanism of regulating hair follicle stem cells and find ways to activate hair follicle stem cells and regenerate hair for patients with hair follicle stem cells dormancy and alopecia.

The research results are among the best in international journals, and can be applied to the human body in the fastest six years.

The research team includes Dr. Chen Zhilong, a postdoctoral researcher of the first author of the paper, Dr. Fan Maiyi, an assistant researcher at the Cell Therapy Center of the Medical Research Department of National Taiwan University Hospital, Lin Dashe, a research assistant at the Institute of Medical Engineering, and Xu Yajie, a Taiwan Province scholar at Harvard University. Thanks to the joint efforts of the members, the research results won the honor of Taiwan Province in the top international journal Cell, but experts said that it would take 6 to 10 years at the earliest before the research results could be safely applied to the human body.

Studies have found that hair follicle stem cells are particularly active when goose bumps appear, which can promote hair growth.
