Traditional schools of guzheng, that is, guzheng music handed down from a certain area, include six traditional schools: Henan, Shandong, Zhejiang, Hakka, Chaozhou and Shaanxi.

These schools are named after regions and have the characteristics of local folk music. There are no schools except traditional schools. Traditional schools are divided into northern schools and southern schools. The northern schools are Henan, Shandong and Shaanxi, and the southern schools are Hakka, Chaozhou and Zhejiang.
