Sun Dazhong was born in Weihai, Shandong Province, a small village surrounded by mountains on three sides. His family has been farming for generations, and his father later went to sea to do business, and his mother was a housewife. Sun Dazhong spent his childhood in his hometown, and then his family moved to Tianjin. Shortly after the founding of New China, Sun Dazhong went to Hong Kong with his father and attended South China Middle School in Hong Kong. A year later, he returned to the mainland, graduated from 195 1 Nankai Middle School, and was admitted to the Geology Department of Tsinghua University. After the adjustment of departments, he entered Beijing Institute of Geology.

He readily agreed, cherishing this opportunity very much, and drilling in the museum all day to watch, draw and record. Later, when he recalled this meaningful summer vacation, he wrote: "More than one month is short, but I will never forget this summer vacation. It gave me an excellent exercise from field to indoor, from practice to theory, and laid the foundation for my future study and research in crystallography, mineralogy, mineral deposit science and geological development history. "
From 65438 to 0954, he participated in the research team of Zhongtiaoshan led by Professor Ma Xingyuan, and went to Zhongtiaoshan alone to do field work and carry out his graduation thesis in the following year. This was his first trip to Zhongtiaoshan. At the beginning of March, the northern land was warm and cold, Zhongtiao Mountain was covered with snow, and it was freezing. During the day, he trudged in the deep mountains and sometimes fell into a ditch covered with snow. In the evening, the information is sorted under the small oil lamp, and the counter in the dilapidated canteen is the bed. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and the quilt is covered with a thin layer of snow. Under such conditions, he completed the field work, drew the Precambrian geological map of 1∶50000, and discovered the Miaogeda copper deposit, which was later confirmed as a medium-sized deposit by exploration. His graduation thesis was recommended by the school as "model essay for graduation thesis". The paper Sinian Strata and Structure in front of Zhongtiaoshan Mountain in Shanxi was rewritten and published in Journal of Geology (in cooperation with Shi Shimin).

In adversity, he devoted himself to science, devoted himself to his work and became the actual academic leader of the scientific research team. This expedition has made new progress in the study of Precambrian geology and copper geology in Zhongtiaoshan area, and the published monograph "Zhongtiaoshan Copper Geology" won the China Science Conference Award 1978. Due to historical reasons, this book was collectively signed, but he deserves to be the first author. He is self-respecting, modest, practical and helpful, and has won the admiration and respect of all members of the scientific research team, geological team and mine geologist. He proposed that the main types of copper deposits in this area can be attributed to three copper-bearing formations in early Proterozoic, and that although the original metallogenic age and mineralization of the deposits in different formations are different, they are all obviously * * *-stratabound. After regional metamorphism, especially the transformation of the mid-belt movement thermal event around 1800Ma, similar hydrothermal metallogenic characteristics have been formed, but the characteristics of deposits controlled by original rock formation or lithofacies lithology have not changed. As for the famous "porphyry copper deposit" in Tongkuangyu, he put forward the view that "it is not a simple genesis or a genesis deposit". It is considered that the main primary mineralization is closely related to potash volcanic rocks. Potassium acidic volcanic rocks (some volcanic intrusive rocks) form molybdenum-bearing copper mineralization, and the metallogenic characteristics are close to those of generalized porphyry copper deposits, but they are stratabound and have undergone metamorphism. The copper mineralization formed by potash basic volcanic rocks has the characteristics of layered copper deposits and has also undergone metamorphism. Both of them can be classified as "metamorphic volcanic gas-liquid copper deposits", and prospecting should follow the principle of dual control of strata and lithology.
1978, Sun Dazhong was completely rehabilitated. In the 1980s, Sun Dazhong led a team into Zhongtiao Mountain. On the basis of the first two works, in-depth isotopic chronology and geochemical research have been carried out. He cited the international advanced single zircon UPb dilution method and high-precision ion probe mass spectrometry dating technology to obtain the crystallization age, capture and inheritance zircon age of igneous rocks, and established the Precambrian structural framework in this area by using comprehensive chronology method. A new method to study the geochronological crustal structure model by using igneous geochronology as a lithospheric probe is proposed. This scientific research achievement clearly expounds the important geological events of Precambrian in Zhongtiaoshan area, including the temporal and spatial evolution of copper-iron mineralization, and fills the gap in the record of world magmatic activity during the period of 2400—2000Ma. He endowed the "depth dimension" of the three-dimensional system in geoscience research with the symbol of time, thus expanding it into a "four-dimensional" system. The book "Precambrian tectonic framework and chronological crustal structure of Zhongtiaoshan" is a summary of this scientific research achievement and the earliest and most systematic monograph in this research field in China. On this basis, he put forward a new idea of combining geology, geophysics and geochemistry to study deep geology and continental crustal dynamics, and the later study of deep geology in South China was the embodiment of his academic thought.

He said calmly to his wife, "We are engaged in science, and we should treat diseases correctly. Life and death are natural laws, and it's no big deal. " He not only struggled tenaciously with strong perseverance, but also ignored life and death and did as much work as possible in the limited time. When he needed to go out for a diagnosis as soon as possible, he asked his wife to give him time to deal with his work. He got up early, drafted, discussed, revised and finalized the project proposal of "Research on Major Projects of Sustainable Economic Development in the Pearl River Delta", and arranged the work and study of graduate students. During the time when the doctor told him to rest and wait for the investigation, he actually worked nonstop every morning and evening. Although he suffered from severe intestinal obstruction and couldn't sleep at night, he still insisted on taking part in the survey of water supply project in Shen Dong. Everywhere he went, he was talking about the utilization and protection of water resources and water environment in sustainable development. During the inspection, he rested for half a day and arranged a tour of shenzhen safari park, but gave a three-hour academic report to the Shenzhen Committee of Jiu San Society. In the last few days of his life, Sun Dazhong often fell asleep because of his persistent high fever. Once he woke up, he said, "I always trudged in the desert looking for groundwater." I want to solve the water problem for the people of Inner Mongolia. "
In the early 1980s, Sun Dazhong repeatedly recommended "Pierce Structural Map" to explore the tectonic environment of Precambrian rocks or geological processes. But after repeated practice, he found the limitation and uncertainty of this graphic method, so he repeatedly stressed that this graphic method should be applied on the basis of fully studying the geological background and opposed to the simple game of data plus graphics.

He quickly set up a sustainable development laboratory in Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and suggested that scientific research resources should be adjusted and reorganized, and a research center for resources, environment and sustainable development in Guangdong Province should be established to make organizational preparations for sustainable development research. Academician Sun Dazhong said: "Implementing the strategy of sustainable development is a major event related to the national economy and people's livelihood and a cause of the whole society. It needs the participation and support of policy makers, scientists and the public. As far as sustainable development research is concerned, it needs the combination of natural science, technical science and social science. "
From 1994 to Sun Dazhong's death, Sun Dazhong made dozens of cooperation reports in various fields with the topics of "Guangdong's sustainable development and its feasibility", "Strengthening public welfare research to promote Guangdong's social and economic development", "Sustainable development-an epoch-making new concept", "Guangdong's sustainable development and resources and environment problems" and "sustainable development engineering and energy". For this obsession, he chose a job when he was in conflict with his job, which delayed the diagnosis and missed the opportunity of surgery.
