At the beginning, except tesol, I applied for the major of East Asian Studies, preferring the latter. But because the latter's background is not strong enough, the best school only applied to the University of California, Santa Barbara, and then my parents wouldn't let me go. But I also applied for tesol, because I have done quite a lot of educational internships and I am quite interested.
Tesol applied for a relatively good major, and his undergraduate major was British and American literature. At that time, the goal was to apply to Vanderbilt, University of Pennsylvania, because there was no application fee. Although they were all recorded, my friends in Van De Burg advised Master to go to cities as much as possible. Vanderbilt was research-oriented. If it is the University of Pennsylvania, it is balanced and ivy in all aspects, and it is attracted by fame.
Q2。 Please introduce the projects of Penn University in detail, including study duration, training direction and learning module. Who do you think this project is suitable for?
The length is about 1 year and a half to two years. I finished it in two years. If you make good use of your time and concentrate on choosing courses, 1 year and a half can graduate. In fact, Penn still attaches great importance to theory. In the first year, I learned a lot of teaching methods and linguistics, and at the same time I had some freedom to choose courses within and outside the department according to my own interests.
In the second year, I mainly reflect and adjust my classroom while practicing. I think it's better for everyone to sort out their development direction first, and then choose courses and participate in some activities.
Q3。 Sister, do you think graduating in two years 1 year will affect your job search? Besides, what courses can I take outside the department? Can you give me a specific example?
Personally, I don't think it has much impact. 1 people who graduated in half a year are quite strong. Maybe they can find a job six months in advance. If you are outside the department, you have an elective course in education, but you should send an email to the teacher explaining the reason for choosing this course and your planned study. I chose some educational psychology and culture, as well as picture books, and I think they are all good ~
Q4。 When you choose to finish this course in two years, how do you feel about the pace of learning? Is the course difficult? What is the main difficulty of this course? (such as English, writing papers, etc. )
The pace is getting faster and faster, and the first year is better. In the second year, because I have to attend classes while practicing, the practice class is called field work, and I have to do a lot of reflection and summary analysis, so the first half of the second year is very tired. In terms of courses, there are water courses and water courses. Ha ha ha ha depends on your choice. Throughout these two years, there are many papers to write, because after all, it is a master's demonstration of liberal arts, and there are many group assignments.
Q5。 What is the teaching mode of that project? How about the project teachers? Do you have much contact with teachers?
As I said before, Penn University generally prefers research, including lectures and seminars. Seminar classes are relatively independent, and lectures are more given by teachers, but it depends on teachers and courses. In most classes, I just watch a lot of things after class and share them in class. There are some excellent teachers, such as larsen freeman, a Daniel in linguistics and education, who are really amazing. He is a visiting scholar and attends classes every year. Most teachers are good, but some are poor, some are from Asia, Japan and Hong Kong. If you are in contact with the teacher, it is mainly up to the students themselves. The teacher will not take the initiative to find you, but you can make an appointment with the teacher for office hours.
Q6。 How many students are there in the senior class? How many mainland students are there? Class introduction (undergraduate school, major, entrance GT, etc. )? How do you feel about your classmates?
It's all elective system, small class, and the maximum number of classes I have taken is 15. I think this is very good. I heard that science and engineering is a big class, and everyone has a chance if it is a small class.
There are quite a few mainland students, because tesol is originally a teacher of English for other language users, and it has a strong pertinence for international students. There are some very good undergraduate schools, and some have never heard of them. In fact, personal experience is still very important when enrolling students. There are many students around us who are very good, very good.
Q7。 Senior, according to your personal experience, what are the employment resources of this project? What kind of employment assistance will the college provide?
The college basically does not provide employment assistance. The school has a career service and a recruitment website, but in fact, it is basically up to you to find a job. To tell the truth, it is still very difficult for liberal arts to find a particularly good job. Liberal arts is to satisfy yourself and go in the dark direction. Especially our identity, we have to answer, so it will be more difficult to find a particularly ideal one. It is said that in the United States, only after graduating from computer science can you find a job.
Q8。 Do you know that many mainland students stayed there in the past? Which enterprises or units did you go to in the end? Where did all the students who went back to the mainland go?
If I know, some people have stayed to start companies before, and many people have gone to private schools to teach Chinese or esl. If you go back to the mainland, you should have all kinds of educational institutions, schools and those who start their own businesses.
Q9。 Sister Shi was an offer ~ How did you plan the whole application preparation process (from exam review to application completion)?
I took the gre first, which seems to be in March, and then I took the TOEFL in 20 days and the TOEFL in April. After I took the gre, I went to the intermediary for consultation. At first, I planned to see how the gt exam was decided, but I didn't want to work immediately, so I reported hahaha ~ I suggested leaving enough time for the exam in case I had to brush it again.
Q 10。 As a successful experience, what do you think TESOL of the University of Pennsylvania values the applicant? What are the necessary qualities?
I think gpa is still very important, as is relevant professional background and personal experience, but undergraduate schools don't seem to attach so much importance to it. I think the GPA should be at least 3.5/4 (which is more advantageous), because after all, the master's degree doesn't have so many research results.
Q 1 1。 For TESOL, what specific practical experience do you think can be focused on?
First of all, it must be teaching, various experiences, private education, examination training, plus some personal experiences and feelings, which will be better, but it is not necessary to pursue particularity, but it is possible to get extra points. It's better to have some personal teaching ideas.
Q 12。 How to improve English from the perspective of English teaching? Is there any way to take the TOEFL?
If I improve my English, I think it will be better to improve my skills and abilities as a whole. If I only pursue exam skills, it will be more painful to study. TOEFL, my only hint is to practice oral English every day. If you lose it, you will show your true colors. Don't be nervous.
Q 13。 Did senior have any relevant practical experience before? Can you tell me how this will help you apply and study now?
Because I want to teach adults, my initial practice is basically related to adult English education. I followed a teacher training program in Guangwai and found it interesting. This can be related to your career goals and interests mentioned in your application, so when preparing your background, try to focus on your future planning direction. Even if you don't have a plan, you can try first and then change.
Q 14。 As an experienced person, what do you think of the choice between project quality (professional ranking) and school reputation (comprehensive ranking)?
I think it's better to see someone If you want to return to China, you may have a higher acceptance of the comprehensive arrangement. In fact, I personally feel that the difference is not too much. It seems that none of the education majors is very advanced and the comprehensive arrangement is very poor.
Q 15。 Finally, are there any suggestions for students who are about to apply or study abroad?
I think it is to find your own direction as soon as possible, prepare your background as soon as possible, and take the exam as soon as possible, so that even if there are changes, there is still room for manoeuvre ~
