Hu Zhide's early years
As a student, Hu Zhide firmly believes that science and technology will serve the prosperity of China and the people, because of his life experience and comparison in different historical periods. Therefore, after staying in school as a teaching assistant in 1956, in addition to completing the teaching task, I immediately started my research work under the guidance of Professor Zuo Zongqi. In the struggle against "Right" in 1957, he was also criticized because his teacher was wrongly classified as "Right" until the end of the Cultural Revolution. But he didn't lose heart. He still studied hard, persisted in exploration and persisted in entering the library. In the absence of equipment and funds, reverse inorganic thin-layer chromatography and reverse paper chromatography, which were rarely studied at home and abroad at that time, were chosen as research topics, with simple measuring cylinders and filter paper or glass sheets as tools, and sometimes even simple tools were moved back to the home of 15 square meters for research. In this self-reliance, hard struggle, unflinching criticism and persistent struggle, he published more than 20 papers in China Science, Science Bulletin, Journal of Chemistry and Chemical Bulletin in the mid-1960s. These achievements were later cited many times by scholars at home and abroad, which led to a criticism that they were useless research and served capitalism, and asked him to stop his research and change his direction.

During the Cultural Revolution, Hu Zhide received more than four years of education and reform in rural areas of Gansu, but he never lost his will and belief. He dares to take risks and impart more knowledge and skills to the students of workers, peasants and soldiers. Working in the factory will improve the analysis method and efficiency of the smelter. At the end of the "Cultural Revolution", at the National Science Conference of 1978, Hu Zhide's previous research on reversed-phase chromatography and solvent extraction and his cooperation with Zhu's selective electrode won awards from the National Science Conference. Hu Zhide enrolled master students for the first time 1979. He chose a novel high performance ion exchange chromatography, systematically studied more than 40 kinds of ions in the periodic table of elements, and summarized a mathematical model with certain foresight and practical significance. Taking the structure-activity relationship in high performance liquid chromatography as the research object, the relationship between molecular connectivity index, induced effect index, partition coefficient, hydrophobicity parameter, extended solubility parameter, acid-base parameter and chromatographic behavior was studied, especially for the calculation of extended solubility parameter, a simple mathematical model was proposed, which improved and developed the previous work in this small field, and the extended solubility parameters of more than 400 organic compounds were calculated to study their relationship with chromatographic behavior. An on-line microwave flow injection analyzer for precious metal analysis has been developed, and a series of new methods have been formed. The application research of artificial neural network in analytical chemistry was carried out, and the retention values of more than 400 kinds of organic substances in petrochemical raw materials and intermediate products were predicted, and compared with experimental data, and good results were obtained. Some nonlinear problems in the analysis are also discussed. In the separation and analysis of high performance capillary electrophoresis, he used HPCE for the first time to separate and determine the active components of Cortex Fraxini, Eucommiae Cortex and its tissue culture system, Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae and its injection, Radix Glycyrrhizae, Rhizoma Gastrodiae, etc. 10 and a complex system in a prescription, which provided a new method for quality control of traditional Chinese medicine and going to the international market. In the above fields, he and his students have published more than 280 papers in academic journals at home and abroad, and won 6 ministerial achievement awards.
