The American College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition (MCM/ICM), sponsored by the American Federation of Mathematics and Its Applications, is the only international mathematical modeling competition and the most influential mathematical modeling competition in the world. The content of the competition involves many fields such as economy, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine and safety.

The competition requires three students (undergraduates) as a group to complete all the work from modeling, solving, verifying and writing the paper within four days, which reflects the ability of the contestants to study problems and solutions and the spirit of teamwork. He is the originator of all kinds of mathematical modeling competitions today.

MCM/ICM is the abbreviation of mathematical modeling competition and interdisciplinary modeling competition. MCM started at 1985.

ICM started with 1999 and was developed by COMAP (Mathematics and Its Application Alliance). Sponsored by the American Federation of Mathematics and Its Applications.

It is sponsored by many organizations, such as SIAM, NSA and INFORMS. MCM/ICM emphasizes originality, teamwork, communication and rationality of research and solutions.
