What should be the main indicators of the evaluation standard of academic level?
The evaluation criteria of academic level should be based on a variety of indicators, including but not limited to the number of papers, cited times, highly cited papers, impact factors and derived ESI rankings. However, in recent years, these indicators have been excessively pursued in academic evaluation, and even alienated from the fundamental goal of publishing SCI papers, high-impact papers and high-cited papers.

In this regard, China has put forward a plan to establish and improve the classification evaluation system. For basic research, the paper is the main form of output, and the evaluation focuses on the innovation level and scientific value of the paper, and does not take the relevant indicators of SCI papers as the direct judgment basis. For applied research and technological innovation, the evaluation focuses on the actual contribution to solving key technical problems in production practice and the actual effect of bringing new technologies, new products and new processes to realize industrial application, rather than taking the paper as a single evaluation basis.

Generally speaking, the evaluation criteria of academic level should be diversified, considering not only the quantity and quality of papers, but also the innovation and service contribution of research. At the same time, we should also avoid excessive pursuit of certain indicators and avoid problems such as grandiose and impetuous style of study and quick success.
